tobacco spitters I have a co-worker whose father owned a jewelry store years ago in Columbia on the corner of the square and Campbellsville Street. The store had a couple of steps at the front door and the tobacco chewers sat there and talked and spat, same as on the benches in front of the courthouse. Finally the store owner got so tired of their mess he took out the steps and installed a concrete ramp up to the front door so they could no longer sit there! Pretty ingenious, in my opinion!
