Basil, Ky

Basil is (or was) located in southern Adair County about 3 miles from Hwy 80 on Hwy 768, near Morris Chapel Church.

My grandfather, Clemy Coomer, was the postmaster for several years at the Basil post office before it was closed. He also had a black smith shop at the same location and put shoes on mules and horses for 25 cents per shoe. He made caskets for deaths in the community, was a leader in Morris Chapel church, and well loved as a neighbor and friend to all before his death in 1972.
