Rotary Walk at Green River State Park The Columbia Rotary Club is sponsoring a community walk in the "volksmarch" tradition. The walk will be held on Saturday, 19 October 2002. Start time is 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. CDT (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon EDT). The location is the Green River State Park pavilion. A volksmarch is literally a "Folk Walk" or a walk of the people, along a prescribed route with each walker setting his/her own pace. These walks are open to the public. The purposes of a volksmarch are to encourage physical fitness, promote fellowship and to enjoy the outdoors. This is a fun activity to do with family and friends or all by yourself. Most volksmarches are 10 km (6.2 miles) in length. Many volksmarches, including this one, allow an optional 5 km (3 mile), and are hosted by clubs in more than 25 nations. Everyone is welcome to participate in the walk for free; however, fees will be charged for anyone who wishes to receive an award button ($1.00) or IVV credit ($2.00). This event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA).
