Lindsey Wilson holds onto second in Learfield Cup standings

By Christopher Coombs

Lindsey Wilson athletics remains in second of the NAIA Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup with the release of the first spring standings, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) officials announced on Thursday.

The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 13 sports during their championships. The NAIA must count four sports -- men and women's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball -- with the remaining nine coming from any of the remaining championship sports.

The final NAIA 2018-19 NAIA Learfield IMG College Directors Cup standings will be released Thursday, June 6.

Lindsey Wilson has 701.00 total points following the men and women's tennis, women's golf, and men's volleyball championships. Oklahoma City is in first with 797.25 points and William Carey (Miss.) is third with 635.50 points. Keiser (Fla.) is in fourth with 615.00 points as Mid-South Conference member Cumberlands (Ky.) rounds out the top-five with 581.50 points.

The Blue Raiders women's golf team earned 23 points for their 22nd place finish in the postseason. The women's tennis team and the men's tennis team both collected 53 points with a ninth-place finish this season. So far the Blue Raiders have added 135 points in the spring season, adding to their total of 168 points in the fall and 398 points in the winter.

Joining Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands from the MSC are six other programs. Cumberland (Tenn.) is 46th with 250 points, Shawnee State (Ohio) is 48th with 244.50 points, Campbellsville (Ky.) is 51st with 233.75 points, Life (Ga.) is 53rd with 229.75 points, Georgetown (Ky.) is 81st with 150 points and Pikeville (Ky.) is 106th with 95 points.
