LWC Softball shuts out Georgetown with pair of 5-0 victories

Georgetown, KY - The No. 8-ranked softball team took down Mid-South Conference opponent Georgetown (KY) on Saturday afternoon as they were able to produce a pair of shutout 5-0 victories over the Tigers.

Hannah Epperson and Annabelle Ramirez were in the circle for Lindsey Wilson (27-1, 10-0 MSC) as they both pitched complete games combining for 20 strikeouts. LWC outhit the Tigers (17-15, 4-6 MSC) 13-4 on the afternoon.

The shutouts mark the 12th time this season Lindsey Wilson has blanked their opponents.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Cumberland (TN) at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, with first pitch set for 3pmCT.


Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 5, Georgetown 0

After two scoreless innings, the Blue Raiders would break through, scoring four of their five runs on four hits.

With one out, Zakiya Sizemore hit a solo shot over the center field fence. Jaydee Boursaw and Kalli Harris would then record back-to-back singles before a Cassie Matlock double drove home Boursaw and put runners on the corners.

A wild pitch during the next at-bat allowed both base runners to advance, scoring Harris and increasing the LWC advantage to 3-0. Makea-Al Kaluau drove in the innings final run on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Luckett would lead off the fourth inning reaching base on a dropped third strike and then advanced to second when she was able to steal second. Callum Pilgrim singled up the middle driving home Luckett for the Blue Raiders final run of the game.

Epperson (9-1) pitched a complete game shutout where she retired nine batters; all while allowing only three Georgetown hits. Boursaw led the way with two hits as five other Blue Raiders managed one for the game.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 5, Georgetown 0

Headed into the fifth inning Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown were knotted in a scoreless tie until LWC managed to take control of the game with a five run-scoring spurt.

The Blue Raiders managed to load the bases to lead off the inning as Lyric Houston reached on a single to left field, Luckett was walked and Lauren Lett laid down a bunt and managed to beat out the throw to first. Pilgrim was then hit by a pitch on a play that scored Houston for LWC's first run of the game.

Sizemore would single up the middle to score Luckett, as the bases remained loaded with no outs. Boursaw recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Lett during the next at-bat as Harris then grounded out to second but Matlock was able to score from her position at third base.

Cassie Matlock then drove in the final run of the game on a double to left center field that scored Sizemore.

Ramirez (9-0) pitched a complete game shutout where she tallied 11 strikeouts while allowing just one hit.
