Dr. Robert Doty inducted into Georgetown College's Hall of Fame By Zoe McAninch Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Robert L. Doty, a retired Campbellsville University professor of English, was recently inducted into Georgetown College's Hall of Fame. The induction took place at the Founders' Day Convocation at Georgetown College. The Hall of Fame was established in 1993 and recognizes alumni whose lives bring honor to the college and who have made distinctive contributions toward the betterment of society during their lifetimes. Doty received a certificate of appreciation and will have a marble plaque placed in his honor in the Richard C. and Karen G. Ward Room of the Ensor Learning Resource Center on the campus of Georgetown College. The plaque was given to Doty by Dr. M. Dwaine Greene, president of Georgetown College. Greene said, "The life of Dr. Robert Doty has been characterized by a devotion to scholarship, extensive travel and an inspiring commitment to important causes. Each of these has been conditioned by his deep and abiding devotion to Jesus Christ." Doty was born in rural Kentucky, and, Greene said, "from where important values were instilled in his heart as a young boy and have remained with him throughout his life." Greene said Doty "would become recognized as a distinguished and accomplished scholar who would earn five academic degrees, including one from Georgetown College." Doty, Greene said, was never an isolated academic, but "he utilized his knowledge in service to others, examples of which were becoming an ordained minister, and serving as a faithful member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. "His generous spirit and impressive experience have earned for him the respect and admiration of all." Doty is a 1962 alumnus of Georgetown College. He has served on Georgetown College's Board of Trustees from 2012 to 2018. He is serving on the Board of Trustees of the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. Doty came to Campbellsville College, later University, in 1973 to teach English literature. He said, "I continued in that capacity with some time away directing international academic programs, a year as a public lecturer for the Kentucky Humanities Council and one year as a visiting professor at Georgetown College in 1987-88. I was retired from active teaching in 2006. I have remained closely connected with both Campbellsville and Georgetown ever since then." Doty is an Eagle Scout and has served the Boy Scouts of America assisting many local young men in obtaining their Eagle Scout level. He has received national recognition from the Boy Scouts of America for his dedication. He has been named the Campbellsville Business and Professional Women's Club Man of the Year and the Campbellsville-Taylor County Chamber Man of the Year. In 2001, he received the Campbellsville University Academic Excellence Award. Doty, a photographer, captures images of nature and architecture in his many travels. He was presented with professor emeritus status at Campbellsville University in May 2007. This story was posted on 2019-03-27 05:48:45
