LWC Baseball hits the road for Tue/Wed matchups

Lindsey Wilson baseball hits the road for two solo games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders (5-18, 1-5 in the Mid-South Conference) are set to face Midway (KY) on Tuesday at 3pmCT before heading to New Albany, Indiana to face IU-Southeast on Wednesday at 4pmCT.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the diamond after dropping three games to Cumberland (TN) at Egnew Park this weekend.


Derek Marrufo leads the Blue Raider bats with a .362 batting average. Marrufo has been up to the plate 47 times this season, managing 17 hits, three doubles, three home runs, and nine RBI's.

Steven Calderon leads Lindsey Wilson in doubles (9), home runs (4), and in RBI's (20). Calderon has connected for 24 hits with a .300 batting average along with scoring 15 runs.

Austin Rayno is the runs leader for LWC with 16 runs scored. Rayno has also managed 23 hits, five doubles, and three RBI's.

Ethan Escue has pitched for 29.0 innings this season for a 5.59 ERA. Escue has started in all six games played and has struck out 14 batters while giving up 21 runs and 31 hits.

Kelvin Guzman is the strikeout leader for the Blue Raiders, recording 22 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched.

Francisco Arias has the lowest ERA on the team (5.11) in 12.1 innings pitched. Arias has a record of 3-2 this season and has 10 appearances.

Midway (15-14, 6-6 in the River States Conference) host Lindsey Wilson after sweeping Ohio Christian 18-3, 15-1, and 10-4 on Friday and Saturday.

Tyson Orr leads the Eagles with a .347 batting, managing 33 hits on 95 at-bats. Orr has also knocked in 17 RBI's as well as four doubles and two triples.

Kurt Paldino leads the team in hits (35), doubles (9), triples (4), home runs (6), and RBI's (35).

Midway has recorded seven student-athletes with double-digit RBI's with five of them recording 14 or more.

Gus Garrison leads the team from the mound with a 2.82 ERA. Garrison has pitched for 38.1 innings and has given up 33 hits, 21 runs (12 of them earned), and has 42 strikeouts so far. Anibal Salado matches Garrison for the team lead in strikeouts (42).

Tuesday's matchup is the second meeting between the two programs. Earlier this season, Midway and Lindsey Wilson played at Egnew Park where the Eagles bested the Blue Raiders in a two-game series. Midway defeated LWC 4-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

IU-Southeast (20-9, 9-3 RSC) returns to New Albany to host Lindsey Wilson on Wednesday after sweeping Point Park (Pa.) over the weekend.

So far this season, Daniel Brescia leads the Grenadiers with a .377 batting average. Brescia has managed 26 hits in 68 at-bats. Brescia has connected for ten RBI's as well as four doubles and one triple.

Cody Maloon leads the team with 34 hits on the season and has notched 22 RBI's.

Derek Wagner leads the team in RBI's with a total of 27. Wagner has connected on 27 hits in 91 at-bats.

Jordan Branz, Maloon, and Wagner all lead the Grenadiers with three home runs apiece.

Chas Adams leads the pitching efforts for IU-Southeast with a 1.80 ERA, pitching in 30.0 innings.

Jack Wholert has seen the mound the most, pitching 46.1 innings. Wholert has managed a 3.30 ERA and leads the team with 37 strikeouts.

The last meeting between the two programs was on April 18, 2018. IU-Southeast defeated Lindsey Wilson 5-4 in New Albany, Indiana. The Blue Raiders hold a 24-21 record over the Grenadiers. IU-Southeast has been able to win the past eight matchups dating back to 2017.
