LWC Baseball falls 14-3 against Cumberland By Clayton Barefield The Lindsey Wilson baseball team falls in game one of a three-game series to Mid-South Conference foe Cumberland (Tenn.) 14-3 on Friday evening at Egnew Park. The Blue Raiders return to action tomorrow as they play the final two games of the series. First pitch is slated for NoonCT from Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. The Blue Raiders (5-16, 1-3 MSC) were outhit 18-9 by the Phoenix (18-9, 3-1 MSC) during the contest. Cumberland produced 14 RBI's to overshadow Lindsey Wilson's three. The Phoenix opened the scoring during the top of the second with two runs. Lindsey Wilson would find a run in the bottom of the third after Cumberland notched a solo run in the top of the inning. The fourth inning would produce four runs for the Phoenix as well as one run for the Blue Raiders coming from a solo home run by Chris Koutsoubos to make the score 7-2. Cumberland added three runs and kept the Blue Raiders scoreless in the fifth inning to total the score 10-2. The Phoenix managed four more runs in the sixth inning to finalize their score to 14 runs. Lindsey Wilson was able to grab a run back from a Steven Calderon homer but could not produce a spark to extend the game. Derek Marrufo, Jordan Gardner, and Calderon all led the team with two hits to finish the game. Seth Price, Calderon, and Koutsoubos all recorded a run batted in. Kelvin Guzman opened the game from the mound, pitching for 4.1 innings. Guzman managed five strikeouts for the game while giving up 13 hits and nine runs. Bradley Hines, Vincent Boils, Austin Streble all made appearances for the Blue Raiders. Streble managed three strikeouts to close out the game. Polo Portela picked up the win for Cumberland pitching for the entire game. Portela recorded four strikeouts and just one walk. This story was posted on 2019-03-22 18:54:44
