LWC Softball takes two at Indiana Southeast

By Chris Wells

New Albany, IN - No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson continued its winning ways today with a doubleheader sweep of host Indiana-Southeast at the Koetter Softball Complex.

The Blue Raiders improved to 12-0 on the season with an 11-4 win in the opener over the Grenadiers and an 8-0 win in the finale.

Cassie Matlock led a potent Lindsey Wilson offense with five hits, including a home run, while driving in seven runs in the doubleheader. Kalli Harris added three hits with a homer and six RBIs in the two wins.

GAME 1: Lindsey Wilson 11 Indiana-Southeast 4

The Blue Raiders scored multiple runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings to take today's opener 11-4.

Matlock went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and six RBIs to lead the Blue Raider offense.

Lindsey Wilson scored four runs in the opening inning only to have the Grenadiers (6-10) battle back and tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Blue Raiders responded with a pair of crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth innings.

Matlock doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth and Makea-Al Kaluau followed with a two-run single to push the Blue Raiders in front 7-4.

In the sixth inning, Harris provided an RBI hit and Matlock iced the game with a bases-loaded triple to give the Blue Raiders the 11-4 lead and eventually the win.

Taylor Slade improved to 4-0 this season with the win in the circle. She allowed four runs on five hits while striking out four in her four innings. Hannah Epperson picked up her first save of the season throwing three scoreless innings. She struck out four while allowing two hits.

GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 8 Indiana-Southeast 0

Annabelle Ramirez hurled a complete-game shutout while the LWC offense used a seven-run seventh to complete the sweep and an 8-0 win.

Ramirez allowed just one hit while striking out four to improve to 2-0 on the season. She has not allowed a run in 14 innings this season.

Harris doubled home Zakiya Sizemore -- who opened the fourth inning with a single -- to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. The Blue Raiders maintained their one-run lead until their final at-bat.

Harris and Matlock hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the seventh to blow the game open. Harris blasted a grand slam -- her third homer of the season -- and Matlock followed with her first round-tripper of the season to give Lindsey Wilson the 8-0 lead.

The two homers give Lindsey Wilson 22 this season -- tied for the most in the NAIA this season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3pmCT on Friday, March 15, as the Blue Raiders travel to Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Georgia.
