Letter: sees partnering with LWC an answer to empty buildings

By James Roberts

I have an idea for the downtown building situation. If the owners cannot be found or aren’t going to fix their buildings and the city condemns them, then fix them up and rent the spaces out. Have a partnership with Lindsey Wilson College on a cost share to remodel them and rent the studios and apartments to students going to Lindsey Wilson.

Then, when the students are not staying there when college is not in session they could be rented out on Airbnb.

It would be close to the campus for the students to commute back and forth (walking or biking) so parking wouldn’t be a problem. I think this approach would help to revitalize downtown and put much needed money back into the local economy. Just my thought on the situation. Hope this helps.

James, thank you for this good idea. Mayor Pam Hoots has a formed a committee to research and work on downtown revitalization and your idea will be brought up in discussion.
