LWC basketball hosts Cumberland Thursday evening

The Lindsey Wilson men and women's basketball teams are set to host Cumberland (Tenn.) on Thursday in Mid-South Conference action at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The women's game is set to tip off at 6pmCT followed by the men's game at 8pmCT.


The No. 19-ranked women (17-8, 7-4 MSC) are back on the court after defeating No. 10 Shawnee State (Ohio) 70-55 on the road on Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson averages 70.4 points per game, out-scoring their opponents by a margin of nine points this season. The Blue Raiders are shooting for 39.2 percent from the field along with 71.1 percent from the foul-line. LWC averages 43.4 rebounds per game.

The Blue Raiders are led by Reagan Turner who averages 20.3 points per game with a 45.9 shooting percentage. Turner leads the MSC this season and ranks fifth in NAIA Division I in total scoring with 507 points.

Gerda Paulauskaite also ranks nationally in blocks per game (2.7) as well as total blocks (65) for a No. 7 ranking in both categories.

Cumberland (6-16, 2-8 MSC) visits Biggers Sports Center after falling 75-66 to Pikeville (Ky.) at home.

The Phoenix average 62.1 points per game while shooting for 38.9 percent from the field. Cumberland is led by Carli Codner-Pinto who averages 12.5 points per game with a 37.1 shooting percentage. Kerrice Watson leads the assist as well as the steal efforts for the Phoenix with a total of 74 assists and 21 steals.

Thursday's meeting is the 36th matchup between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson holds a 20-15 record over Cumberland. The last meeting between the two was on Jan. 5th where the Blue Raiders picked up a 78-56 road win.

Blue Raider men's basketball (13-13, 3-7 MSC) returns to action after an 87-83 victory over Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon.

Men's basketball is averaging 78 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 36.6 percent from beyond the arc and 71.8 percent from the charity stripe. Four Blue Raiders average over 12 points per game in Kel Stotts (14.4), JR Adams (12.4), Matthew Eldridge (12.3) and Shakaris Laney (12).

Cumberland (9-12, 2-8 MSC) returns to action after an 81-72 loss to Pikeville on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix are averaging 76 points and 34.9 rebounds per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Ty Sean Powell leads Cumberland averaging 16.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He also boasts an impressive 51.3 shooting percentage from the field this season.

Thursday's matchup marks the 46th meeting with LWC leading the overall series 33-12. The two squads last met on Jan. 5 where the Blue Raiders fell 77-70 on the road.
