Blue Raider Basketball set for doubleheader at Shawnee State

The Lindsey Wilson women and men's basketball teams are continuing Mid-South Conference play on the road at Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon.

The doubleheader action is scheduled to begin with the women's game at 1pmCT followed by the men's game at 3pmCT from Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium, 940 2nd St, Portsmouth, OH.


The No. 20-ranked women (16-8, 6-4 MSC) are coming off a close 59-61 defeat to Pikeville (KY) on the road on Thursday night. J'Nayah Hall led the Blue Raiders with 21 points while Reagan Turner was close behind with 18 points.

Turner etched herself in Lindsey Wilson history on Thursday as she broke the 1,000 career point milestone during the contest. Gerda Paulauskaite recorded a team-best 13 rebounds for the night while also managing three blocks.

Turner continues to move up the ranks nationally by jumping into the top-five in NAIA Division I in total scoring with 484 points this season. Turner also makes an appearance in the top-10 in points per game averaging 20.2 points.

As a team, Lindsey Wilson ranks No. 7 in offensive rebounds per game (16.3) as well as ranks No. 9 in total blocks (105).

No. 10 Shawnee State (20-5, 7-2 MSC) hosts Lindsey Wilson after defeating Cumberland (Tenn.) 79-57 at home on Thursday night.

The Bears were led by Bailey Cummins who finished the game with 14 points while shooting 50 percent from the field. Cummins also tallied five assists during the contest. Three other players scored in double-figures for the Bears. Laken Smith and Marnae Holland both managed 12 points each while Syndey King chipped in 10 points.

This season, Shawnee State has been led by Aston Lovely who averages 15.4 points per game while shooting for 38.9 percent from the field. Smith leads the team in rebounds averaging 5.9 boards per contest. Cummins leads the assist and blocking efforts for the Bear. Cummins averages 5.6 assists per game as well as totaled 16 blocks this season.

Saturday's matchup is the 24th meeting between the two programs with Shawnee State holding a 15-8 edge in the series. The last meeting between the two programs was back on Jan. 17, where Shawnee State defeated Lindsey Wilson 79-77 at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson men's basketball (12-13, 3-7 MSC) returns to action after an 84-71 loss to Pikeville on Thursday evening. Shakaris Laney led the Blue Raiders with 17 points and five rebounds against the Bears.

Three other Blue Raiders managed to hit double-figure points, with Kel Stotts notching 14 points, JR Adams pacing with 13 points and Pierre Lys with 10 points.

As a team, the Blue Raiders ranked 13th in the NAIA in total three-point field goals made with 247. LWC defense is ranked 15th in the NAIA in three-point field goal defense, holding opponents to 32.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Individual efforts are led by Adams and Lys, who both rank in the top-25 in the NAIA in total steals. Adams leads with 46 steals ranking him 12th in the NAIA, while Lys paces with 41 ranking him at 21st.

Shawnee State (13-11, 4-5 MSC) returns to action after defeating Cumberland 86-83 on Thursday evening. The Bears are led by EJ Onu, who averages 12 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7 percent from the field.

As a Team, the Bears are averaging 78.5 points and 38.2 rebounds per game. Shawnee State is shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 70.7 percent from the charity stripe.

As for Individual efforts, Onu is ranked second in the NAIA in total Blocks with 68 this season, while averaging 2.8 blocks per game.

Saturday's matchup marks the 21st meeting with LWC leading the overall series 15-5. The last matchup occurred on January 17, in which the Blue Raiders defeated the Bears 84-67 at Biggers Sports Center.
