Kentucky legislators hit the reset button on pension reform By Tom Loftus, Louisville Courier Journal Lawmakers on the new Public Pension Working Group learned -- or relearned -- on Tuesday that there are 559,625 members of Kentucky's eight distinct retirement plans. And they learned that those plans are saddled with $42.7 billion in unfunded liabilities. The group started at ground zero at its initial meeting, which included a three-hour briefing on the structure and size of Kentucky's public pension plans and the crisis at hand.
