Immigrant statistics in the United States from Phil Hanna

"Thirteen communities across the United States welcome immigrants, including two in Kentucky - Bowling Green, Lexington and Northern KY." This is a recommended source for information about immigrants and their place in our nation.

By Phil Hanna, retired LWC Librarian, Columbia

With all the conversation on immigrants in our country, here is a link to a project that collects and organizes data to show various kinds of information about this subset of America. The database can be found at this link New American Economy.org

The database by state and district can be found under map the impact link.

The New American Economy project in their words "is a bipartisan research and advocacy organization fighting for smart federal, state, and local immigration policies that help grow our economy and create jobs for all Americans.

We make the economic case about immigration in three ways:

- We use powerful research to demonstrate how immigration impacts our economy.

- We organize champions at the grassroots and influencer levels to build support for immigration.

- We partner with state and local leaders to advocate for policies that recognize the value immigrants add locally."

They look at the contribution of immigrants to the tax base, to business, and to entrepreneurship. On one of their pages it lists thirteen communities across the United States that welcome immigrants including two in Kentucky, Bowling Green and Lexington.

This is a good source for information about immigrants and their place in our nation. - PH
