Jake McKinley to be Milwaukee Brewers Pitching Coordinator

By Jordan Alves

Campbellsville, KY - Jake McKinley, a former Tiger baseball assistant coach, was hired by the Milwaukee Brewers as the Pitching Coordinator, officials announced recently.

McKinley was at Campbellsville from 2007-2009 as a graduate assistant and full-time assistant for the Tigers. He played a major role in leading the team to a 39-12 record and a trip to the 2009 NAIA World Series.

"My two years with the Tigers were some of the best years of my life," said McKinley. "The opportunity to work for Coach (Beauford) Sanders taught me what it meant to be a winner both on and off the field and I will forever be in debt to him.

"Campbellsville is a special place and I could not be prouder to have been a part of the community as a coach and graduate student."

The 2009 season was special as the Tigers reached the World Series for the first time in program history. McKinley was also a part of two Mid-South Conference regular season titles and three-straight MSC Tournament Championships.

The Tigers earned their bid to the NAIA World Series after winning three games in two dates at the Lindenwood University Opening Round Championship - or better known as when Bryan Fuller put little Campbellsville on the map (CLICK HERE).

"I expect Brewer tickets at any time and at any venue, especially when they are playing the Braves," a joking Coach Sanders said. "I couldn't be prouder of Jake because he started his coaching career at Campbellsville before he built programs at Menlo and William Jessup.

"He impressed me from the get-go with his knowledge and sincerity and just being a good person. He was a great guy on and off the field and did a fantastic job with Coach Scott Hortness leading our pitching efforts. We were a very good team in 2009 and a large part of that was his efforts in recruiting and helping put Campbellsville on the map."

The pitching coordinator position was left vacant after Milwaukee promoted now pitching coach Chris Hook to the position. The pitching coordinator is responsible for traveling the minor leagues to work with coaches and young pitchers on pitching plans and implementing organizational philosophies, among other things.
