Victim's Advocate grant provides a variety of services

The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet annouced yesterday that the Adair County Attorney's office has been awarded a $69,393 grant for Victims Programs. This is the third year the Adair Co. Attorney's office has received the Victim's Advocate grant.

According to Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin, Victim's Advocate Barbara Shepherd assists victims and their families in a variety of ways, including:
  • Helping victims understand their rights
  • Accompanying victims to meetings with law-enforcement officers or prosecutors
  • Attending court procedures
  • Educating victims about the criminal justice system
  • Assisting victims with writing victim impact statements
  • Referring victims to needed services
  • Notifying victims of upcoming court appearances
  • Notifying victims of significant events relating to the prosecution of cases
The Adair County Attorney's Office serves victims in Adair County District Court.
