Trees Selected For Campbellsville Road Project This article first appeared in issue 12, and was written by Linda Waggener. The Kentucky coffee tree, the white ash, the black gum, and the willow oak will dominate the treescape which will greet travelers on Campbellsville Road from the junction of Hwy 551 south to Russell Creek after April of this year. They will be accented by four types of flowering trees, the redbud, the Kousa or Japanese dogwood, the red jewell crabapple, and the winter king hawthorn. These trees were selected at the February meeting of Heart of Adair, held in Mackie's Photo-Video because of a conflict with a late session of court. An alternate big tree, a cultivar of honey locust, may be purchased instead of the Kentucky coffee tree. According to Billy Joe Fudge, who presided over the selection, a State grant of $9,000 to be matched locally with money or in-kind contributions, assure that money will be available to complete the project on Campbellsville Street. "We'll be able to buy at least 75 of the big trees, and at least 65 of the flowering ones, with the money we already have." He said that nursery stores are giving very favorable prices for the trees, and he believes that the number may be somewhat higher.
