Operation Christmas Child off to big start

This year's Operation Christmas Child dropoff week opened today, with 227 OCC boxes pouring in from lots of Adair County organizations.

The annual Samaritan's purse project is a favorite of many Adair County residents, families, churches and groups who spread the joy to millions of children around the world by filling shoeboxes with a wow item--like a doll or soccer ball--other fun toys, school supplies, hygiene items, other items as well as notes of encouragement.

OCC National Collection Week is November 12-19, 2018. The Adair County central drop off location this year is located at the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene Wheet Fellowship Building, 1200 Jamestown St., Columbia, KY 42728.

Collection week hours of operation are as follows:


  • Monday, Nov. 12th, from 5pmCT to 7pmCT

  • Tuesday, Nov. 13th 11:30amCT to 1:30pmCT

  • Wednesday, Nov. 14th, from 5pmCT to 7pmCT

  • Thursday, Nov. 15th, from 9amCT to 11amCT

  • Friday, Nov. 16th, from 10amCT to NoonCT

  • Saturday, Nov. 16th, from 9amCT to 11amCT

  • Sunday Nov. 18th, from 2pmCT to 4pmCT

  • Monday Nov. 19th, from 9amCT to 11amCT

Knifley Christian Church drops off OCC gifts

The Knifley Christian Church was the first church to drop off Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts in 2018. Pictured are Jace cold, Weston Bullock, Zack Bullock, and Jennifer Bullock. The church nearly tripled their total from last year.

Brandon Burns honored at Sunday ceremony

The 2018 Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts are being given in memory of Brandon Burns. Brandon was the bowling coach at Lindsey Wilson College. Brandon had a great love and passion for OCC. The Burns Family was given a plaque at morning service at The Colombia First Church of the Nazarene Sunday morning.

Missy Lemmon, Katherine Lemmon, and Lakota Lemmon dropped off OCC shoeboxes from the Breeding United Methodist Church and Red Lick United Methodist Church. They were the last church to drop off Monday evening bringing the first day total to 227 OCC boxes.

Special recognition

Operation Christmas Child Collection Center Coordinator Denise Fudge present First Church of the Nazarene Pastor Brent Piatt with a plaque of recognition from Samaritans Purse. The Wheet Fellowship Hall has served as a Drop Off location for the past five years.
