Mackie Jo Pennington Of Photo-video Is In Charge Of Downtown Flower Boxes

This article first appeared in issue 7, and was written by Staff.

It was unanimous at the August Heart of Adair meeting that Mackie Jo Pennington of the Design Team remain in charge of the flowers on the square. She accepted.

The flower beds have gotten wonderful reviews all season. One visitor compared downtown Columbia's brightness to similar sized towns on her trip here from Alabama and said this was the best looking one of all. Only one bed in front of the former Collin's Drugs had gotten out of control because there's no one inside the building to watch over it. Donna Vaughn suggested a sign be placed in that orphan bed that reads, "weed me". However, Design Team regulations state that nothing but flowers and plants can go into the beds, no signs, no pink flamencos, etc.

Mackie says from the excellent cooperation she's gotten from downtown business leaders and from the city that everything will be even better next year.
