Elmo Franklin, 71, Columbia, KY (1947-2018)

Born in Flatwoods, KY he was the son of the late Robert and Emma Spoon Franklin. Elmo was owner of Franklin Sanitation and a retired auto mechanic having worked for J. C. Montgomery and Tom Edwards.

Elmo Franklin, 71, of the Flatwoods community of Adair county, KY died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2pmCT on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Pastor Bob McCann officiating. Burial will follow in the Bearwallow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the funeral home.


Born in Flatwoods, KY he was the son of the late Robert and Emma Spoon Franklin. Elmo was owner of Franklin Sanitation and a retired auto mechanic having worked for J. C. Montgomery and Tom Edwards.

Survivors include
  • His wife Odean Marie Burton Franklin of Columbia
  • Three brothers David Murphy (Jean) of Fairplay, Clurel "Doc" Murphy (Gail) and Martin Bryant both of Columbia
  • Three sisters Maggie Grider and Dorothy Murphy both of Columbia and Lula Mae Franklin of Greensburg
  • Two sisters-in-law Ann Murphy of Columbia and Carolyn Sue Satterfield of Carthage, TN
  • Two special nephews Daniel Gadberry and his family, Betty, Hunter and Kodie of Glensfork, KY and Adam Grider and his wife Angel and son Landon of Sparksville, KY
  • Nieces and nephews Tammy Hancock, Brenda Long (David), Tommie Lee Arnold (Chris) and Joeann Silcox (Boyd) all of Carthage, TN
  • His church family at Praise Assembly of God Church in Columbia, his Adanta T R family, A-Transportation family, his special fur baby family and a host of nieces, nephews and friends
In addition to his parents he was preceded by in death by a brother Robert Franklin, a sister Suzy Franklin and a brother-in-law Tony Grider.
