Mild temperatures, storms possible overnight

Today is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph. A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5pmCT, and winds could gust as high as 22 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely overnight, mainly before 4amCT. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 56. Southeast wind 8 to 14 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

According to a note from the National Weather Service, provided to us by Mike Keltner, Director of Adair Co. Emergency Management, "Some changes to the forecast this morning have included lowering the severe probabilities across the entire region. We still think that a squall line, or multiple lines and clusters of storms, will move through this evening into the early morning hours. Damaging winds will be the main threat with the line, but brief tornadoes and flash flooding will be possible as well. Models have sped up the storms a bit and it looks like everything should be out of here before sunrise Tuesday."

On Election Day, expect it to be mostly sunny, with a high near 64. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
