Agenda For March 26th Meeting

This article first appeared in issue 2, and was written by Linda Waggener.

AGENDA FOR MARCH 26TH MEETING

I. Elect Chairperson of the Board.

Chairs report on organizational activities since last meeting.

II. Define the boundaries of "Downtown" effort

Deciding the geographic territory for our group's focus is the first order of business - before we can name or promote it, we must define where "it" is.

Is our focus just the historical core city, Columbia? Maybe from Lindsey Wilson College to the historic Jones House on Burkesville Street-from the Miller House on Jamestown Hill to the Dillon House on Greensburg Street?

Or, are we talking about that area from the moment you pass into the city limits until you pass out of the city limits on the other side?

Or, even bigger, does it begin the minute you pass over the Adair County line, and include working to assure the revitalization of every little downtown within the county's boundaries?

III. Vote on group name

If time allows, the name of the group will be decided. If not, it will be the first item on the next meeting's agenda.

Ideas shared by the Kentucky Main Street include some names other towns have chosen: Ashland Main Street Program, Inc., Downtown Bardstown Corporation, Heart of Danville, Inc., Harrodsburg First, Discover Downtown Madisonville, Franklin-Simpson Renaissance, Harlan Revitalization Association, Shelby Development Corporation, Downtown Lexington Corporation, Paducah Main Street, Inc.,

Add these names into the pool begun at our second meeting and bring your ideas for our effort. As you can see from the above names, just because we vote to work with the Main Street Heritage Program does not mean we have to include those words in our name. What do you think?

IV. Set date, time and place for next meeting, then break into Action Teams.
