I'm A Dam Runner will be Saturday, May 16 The traditional 'I'm A Dam Runner' is a 5K Run/Walk that takes place at beautiful Green River Lake in Taylor County, KY on the USACE property. This race goes along the dam that creates Green River Lake, and is a closed course. It's an out and back, mostly flat, all paved, and offers views of the lake nearly the entire run. Portions of the funds from this race benefit The Friends of Green River Lake who work to support many efforts in recreation and conservation around Green River Lake. Lanterns & Tombstones Tour is still on Dave and Mike are ready to go with Lanterns & Tombstones Tour of the Historic Columbia City Cemetery tonight at 7pmCT. The weather may look dubious, but we are not! In four years of Tours, we have cancelled one time--September 2024--due to a steady rain that turned into a downpour. We always advise those interested in touring with us to wear muck boots or galoshes, rain jacket, and hat, or bring your umbrella just in case there is a fine mist or drizzle. We prepare all winter for the beginning of the Tour season and we certainly don't want to disappoint anyone! So, come on out, even if it is looking unlikely. We make the final decision about five minutes before start time. Remember, park at the Judicial Center parking lot at the corner of Campbellsville and Merchant Streets, or across Merchant in the Farmers' Market lot. Then walk up the drive between the Judicial Center and the Fire Department into the Old Section of the Cemetery. Please, no parking in the Cemetery. We gather at the top of the drive and walk from there. The route tonight is not a long one, just in case the weather is not friendly. Baseball: Indians travel to Pulaski Co. on Friday By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Adair County Baseball team currently sits at 6-4 on the season, with recent wins over Glasgow and Casey County and losses to North Hardin, Wayne County, and Hazard. In the game against the Cardinals of Wayne County, starter Jasper Kemp completed three innings of work from the mound, giving up four hits and two earned runs while walking one batter and striking out two batters, all on 57 pitches. Bryce Russell would come in to relive Kemp, also doing three innings of work, while giving up seven hits, and three runs (none of which were earned) while walking two batters and striking out five on 66 pitches. Alex Martin and Jasper Kemp led the way in batting, both with two hits. Bryce Russell and Jackson Sinclair had one each to round out the Tribe's six hits. Kemp would also turn out to be a lethal base runner as well, stealing four bases on five steal attempts, the team as a whole would steal eight bases on 10 tries. The Indians would have certainly liked to get out of Monticello with a win over the Cardinals, but this was a solid performance against a good Wayne County team. They will look to get one back in the win column as they face the Pulaski County Maroons (5-5) on the road on Friday, April 3, 2026, before heading south for some Spring Break baseball in Florida. Hunting the Elusive Morel By Donna Rieder Dry Land Fish, Land Fish, Woodfish, Fisharooms, Wood Chicks, Hickory Chickens, Forest Taters, Molly Mushers...whatever you want to call them, Morel mushrooms are the king of all mushroomsand are hunted by mushroom lovers everywhere. True morels are highly prized edible fungi from the genus Morchella, distinguished by their honeycomb-like, pitted caps that are completely hollow inside, with the cap and stem joined at the base. Mushrooms need adequate moisture since they have a water content of 90%, so the best time to forage for morels is mid-Spring, often just a few days after it rains, and when ground temperatures reach 53F. The best places to find them are in moist, forested areas, particularly around dead or dying trees like elm, ash, poplar, and old apple orchards. Creek banks, river bottoms, and ravines provide the moisture they thrive in. Online boat registration renewal option From Naitore Djigbenou/Allen Blair Frankfort, KY - Team Kentucky is making it easier for boat owners to stay current on their vessel registrations with the launch of a new online renewal option on April 1, 2026. Boat owners can now skip a trip to their local County Clerk's office and renew their registration online to save valuable time. "We're excited to give Kentucky boat owners even more choices this spring to spend less time in an office and more time enjoying the open waters," said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray. "This new boat renewal option expands our existing online vehicle registration service to give Kentuckians a more convenient way to be served." Students present work, find inspiration at English Conference By Duane Bonifer One of the themes at this year's Sigma Tau Delta convention was resilience. For the Lindsey Wilson University students who attended the annual meeting of the international English honor society, other themes might have been impressive, extraordinary and amazing. A total of 19 students attended the four-day conference, which was held March 29-April 1 in New Orleans and funded by a university grant. Seven LWU students presented their research, and the other 12 attended as observers, making the Lindsey Wilson delegation one of the largest to attend the conference, which attracted more than 1,000 undergraduate students from U.S. colleges and universities. "We always tell our students how extraordinary their work is, but for them to hear from people at other schools how amazing their work is was really great," said English professor Rachel Carr '13, who was one of three Lindsey Wilson faculty to accompany the students. "Faculty sponsors at other schools were always coming up to us and saying, 'This work is incredible.'" Funding approved for two road projects in Columbia From Trey Stephens City of Columbia | Assistant to the Mayor On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the City of Columbia is extremely pleased to announce that the Kentucky State Legislature has approved plans for two major transportation infrastructure improvements in Columbia. The first is on Rice Drive and Watson Street, where a project will be undertaken to address major drainage issues and prevent the area from facing significant flooding. The project will be a massive step towards ensuring that residents in that area of Columbia are safe in their homes and not cut off from emergency services during flooding events. This project was placed under the Kentucky State road plan for fiscal year 2027. The second project is Burkesville Loop which has been approved for funding under the Local Assistance Road Program (LARP). This project will return the road to suitable condition for Columbia's citizens and keep the residents of that road safe. Mayor Hoots says she and all of Columbia's 5,000 citizens owe a massive debt of gratitude to Representative Amy Neighbors and Senate Majority Leader Max Wise for their tireless work on these two projects, both of which will have a profound effect on our community.
