Blakey, Burton complete DOCJT Basic Training

From Michael Moore

Richmond, KY - On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that 38 law enforcement officers from agencies across the commonwealth have graduated from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training's (DOCJT) basic training academy in Richmond.

Local area graduates Devin D. Blakey with the Russell County Sheriff's Office and Logan D. Burton with the Jamestown Police Department were among the 38 members of Class 559.

These law enforcement officers now return home to serve, protect and create a safer New Kentucky Home.

"Our law enforcement has a long history of serving and protecting this great commonwealth. Today, you all become part of this legacy," Gov. Beshear said. "Thank you for stepping up to serve. We pray for your safety and wish you all fulfilling and successful careers."

Rev. Brumfield building community through partnerships

'I think 90% of ministry is just showing up, being present and then letting God do the rest.'

From Duane Bonifer

The Rev. Tyler Brumfield's first year at Lindsey Wilson College was one of lessons, observations and a few revelations.

Brumfield, who served his first year as Lindsey Wilson chaplain, helped lead a campus ministry program in 2024-25 that demonstrated that a chaplain's office is often most effective when it is not restricted to the confines of a chapel.

Brumfield said it was no accident that members of the Lindsey Wilson community saw him and the students he works with in campus ministry throughout the campus. That was the result of a decision that he and the campus ministry students made at the start of the school year when they held a retreat at The United Methodist Church's Loucon Training and Retreat Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

"When we gathered together there back in August, we developed a mission statement that called for us to follow Jesus, make disciples and serve others," he said. "So that's what we set out to do throughout the school year."

Thought for the day: what counts

"It is difficult to know what counts in the world. Most of us count credits, honors, dollars. But at the bulging center of mid-life, I am beginning to see that the things that really matter take place not in the boardrooms, but in the kitchens of the world." -- Allen Sledge

Many get thanks for History of Adair County Fair book

By Rodney White

Several individuals were very helpful in sharing information and memories from attending and participating in the Adair County Fair through the years.

Fay Roy Davidson answered countless questions in an interview and in numerous text messages. Every time I needed information or clarification, Fay always shared her knowledge.

Charles Grimsley shared his memories of the fair during his childhood. He began parking cars in the VFW lot at an early age, and his enthusiasm continues today working with the Adair County Fair Association in their efforts to rebuild the fair tradition.

KDFW urges boater safety over July 4 holiday

From the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources game wardens will be increasing patrols across the state to help keep Kentucky's waterways safe over the upcoming Independence Day holiday.

This increased effort is held in conjunction with "Operation Dry Water," a heightened awareness and enforcement campaign designed to educate the public about the dangers of boating under the influence (BUI). The campaign facilitates a national focus on BUI detection and enforcement, aiming to reduce the number of alcohol- and drug-related incidents and fatalities around the July 4 holiday each year.

"Vessel operators decide whether to drink alcohol and boat under the influence, and many times the decision to do so has deadly results," said Maj. David Marques, assistant director of Law Enforcement for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "Our game wardens will be out on the water throughout the holiday to observe for those who may show impairment not just from alcohol but from drugs as well."

Letter: Trucks vital to downtown businesses

M (full name on file) writes:
I have sat and read how we need to keep trucks of the square for years, and in the same conversation I hear about revitalizing the downtown area.

I really don't see how you can have both, and I am sure the existing businesses, restaurants, auto parts stores, hardware stores, farm supply stores and any other that I may leave out are sure thankful for those trucks to be inside the by-pass as they are vital to their business.

Every effort is made to reach out to the vendors to see how they did and invite them back. Most of the vendors reported good sales, down from last year but overall, a good day for them.
