Phillip Coffey: Literary Knowledge

By Phillip Coffey
Reading O' Henry in my much extended spare time.
Wait a minute - Just a wrapper from an old candy bar.
Come to think of it - remember stumbling from a casino.
Thoughts are often deceiving - now totally plum flat broke.

My literary knowledge stopped just shy of 'Dick and Jane'.
Lots of my ego has been displaced with the ole ball and chain
Thrown across my wide shoulder, heavy - my goodness the pain.
Everything is cool, might as well just take up 'Mark Twain.'

CU Harrodsburg student helps the deaf feel the Word of God

By Katie Neal

Harrodsburg, KY - When Chadwick Noel preaches in-person on Easter Sunday for the first time since COVID-19, he will give thanks for God's promise of rebirth and renewal - using sign language and wearing a face shield for lip-readers.

As the pastor of Danville Deaf Baptist Mission, Noel helps the hearing impaired receive the word of God.

He also knows a thing or two about miracles. Noel was born with kidney issues that led to multiple transplants. He was diagnosed as deaf at five years old and sustained a traumatic brain injury in a life-threatening car accident 10 years ago.

"That did not stop me from pursuing His plan because He wasn't done with me," Noel said.

Will Your Driver's License Fly?

By Naitore Djigbenou/Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - Do you have a license that will fly?

In six months, on October 1, 2021, federal enforcement of the REAL ID Act is scheduled to begin, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) encourages Kentuckians to be aware of changes that will bring.

One of the most important changes will occur at airports, where an ordinary driver's license or identification card for persons 18 and older will no longer be accepted for boarding a U.S. commercial flight. Nor will it be accepted for entry to restricted federal installations, such as military bases, nuclear plants and the White House.

"After such a difficult year fighting COVID-19 and being separated from our loved ones, I know many Kentuckians will be excited to travel or visit service members when it is safe," said Gov. Beshear. "I want all Kentuckians to know about REAL ID requirements so a long-awaited trip doesn't get delayed or canceled just because someone had the wrong form of ID."

COVID-19 update: Don't let your guard down

By Amy Tomlinson - Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Don't forget that at both the world level and the national level, we are seeing sharp increases in new COVID-19 cases.

Therefore, please do not assume that the pandemic is completely behind us and take the vaccine as soon as you can. Also, until the vaccine is widely available, and a significant percentage of the population has taken it, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces.
