LWC Track & Field secure top-5 finishes at Centre Invitational

Danville, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track & field teams both secured top-five team finishes on Saturday at the Centre College Invitational.

The Blue Raider men's program finished as the runner-up at the competition, while the women's team captured fifth place in the team standings.

Chamber of Commerce makes request of City Council

Chamber of Commerce President Ellen Zornes, left, came before the City Council during the time allotted for citizen comments. She requested the Council examine the idea of becoming member sponsors of the organization to help it continue. She recognized that anything the city contributes to financially must be for the good of the whole community and made reference to the Roadside Park on Hwy. 55 South, and to the annual Christmas in Columbia celebration, both clearly for the public. The idea was taken for study and a decision at the next meeting.

LWC Baseball swept by CU in MSC series Saturday

Campbellsville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team was swept by Campbellsville in a three-game Mid-South Conference series with two losses on Saturday to the host Tigers at HIG Field.

After dropping the opening game of the series 3-1 on Friday night, the 10th-ranked Blue Raiders (26-14, 7-5 MSC) fell 6-1 in the first game of the day on Saturday before blowing a five-run lead and dropping the nightcap 6-5 to the Tigers (22-11, 7-5 MSC).

Lindsey Wilson managed just seven runs during the three-game stretch, collecting 17 hits on the weekend while stranding 14 runners. The Blue Raiders' three-game losing streak is the longest of the season. Lindsey Wilson had not lost two games in a row since the first weekend of the year back on Feb. 5.

LEXINGTON, KY (31 Mar 2016) - A former nurse at the federal prison in Lexington has been sentenced for smuggling tobacco into the prison, in exchange for payments from inmates.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves sentenced 47 year-old Michael Hardin, formerly employed as a registered nurse at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, to twelve months in prison, for bribery of a public official. Under federal law, Hardin must serve the entire term of his sentence; and at the conclusion of his incarceration, he must serve one year of home detention. Hardin will also be required to complete 400 hours of community service during his three-year term of supervised release.

According to his plea agreement, from July 2014 to August 2015, Hardin smuggled tobacco into the prison facility for inmates, who paid him a total of $22,429 in return. The inmates used family members and friends to send the money to Hardin. As a condition of his plea agreement, Hardin repaid all the money he received.

Official Kentucky 2015 highway fatality count released

Fatalities up 89 compared to 2014; 2016 YTD down from 173 to 151

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 4, 2016) - Highway fatalities in Kentucky increased last year, according to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and Kentucky State Police (KSP).

There were 761 fatalities in 2015, 89 more than 2014.

"The number of fatalities during 2015 will not discourage our agency from striving 'Toward Zero Deaths' in the future," said Tpr. Kendra Wilson. "We are utilizing real-time, digital traffic data to identify high crash corridors and increasing patrols and enforcement efforts in those areas."

Frances Herron Graybeal, 75, Taylor County, KY (1940-2016)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Taylor County Elementary School and a hairdresser. She united in marriage to Dallas Graybeal April 20, 1957. She was the daughter of the late Chester Herron and Hettie Herron Miller. Her husband, Dallas Graybeal survives. She leaves 14 direct living descendants

LWC golf gears up for MSC Spring Tournament

The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's golf teams are set compete at the Campbellsville (Ky.) Invitational. The event is also the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament. Competition started at 9:30amCT today at the Campbellsville Country Club.

At the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament in McDermott, Ohio, the men's team posted a third-place finish out of eight teams, while the women finished fourth out of seven teams.

LWC Tennis tops Indiana Wesleyan

No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis topped Indiana Wesleyan 6-0 Saturday at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex on the Campbellsville (Ky.) campus. The No. 3-ranked women's tennis team remained perfect against NAIA competition this season with a 5-2 win over the No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan women's team.

Freddy Carol Cary, 74, Cumberland Co., KY (1941-2016)

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and retired after 27 years from General Motors as a certified plating operator. He was a member of United Auto Workers, American Legion and a Kentucky Colonel. Raines-Goode engagement, forthcoming wedding announcement

Richard and Debra Raines of Columbia, KY wish to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Brittany Elizabeth Raines to Robert Cory Goode, son of Bobby and Brenda Goode of Glasgow, KY.

Brittany is the granddaughter of Glen and Vena Raines and the late Glenwood and Nellie Corbin Brittany is a 2007 graduate of Adair County High School, a 2012 Graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and will graduate from South College School of Pharmacy in June, 2016.

Cory is the grandson of Geneva Goode and the late Kenneth Goode and the late Robert Vance and Payne and Rosie Boston.

Cory is a 2001 graduate of Barren County High School and is currently employed by the Barren County School System.

The couple will make their home in Glasgow, KY.
