Tommy (Slim) Glen Murley, 84, Monroe Co., KY (1932-2016)

He was a farmer and a sawyer at Anderson Forest Products for 20 years, and of the Church of Christ faith. He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of Monroe County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Arthur and Bernice Harvey Murley. His wife of 54 years, Melba Brown Murley, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants.

Tommy "Slim" Glen Murley, age 84, of Tompkinsville, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Monroe County Medical Center, Tompkinsville, KY.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 2pmCT, at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY, with Brother Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 4, 2016, from 2pmCT-8pmCT, and after 7amCT, on Tuesday, until time of services.



Tommy (Slim) Glen Murley, 84, Monroe Co., KY (1932-2016)


Born April 1, 1932, in Cumberland County, KY, he was a son of the late Arthur and Bernice Harvey Murley. He died Saturday, April 2, 2016, in Tompkinsville, Monroe County, KY, at the age of 84 years, one day.

He was the husband of Melba Brown Murley, who survives. They were married 54 years.

He was a farmer and a sawyer at Anderson Forest Products for 20 years, and of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors, other than his wife, include:
  • One daughter: Debra (Billy) Shoopman, Glasgow, KY

  • One sister: Catherine Dulworth, Celina, TN

  • Three grandchildren: Jonathan (Lajill) Garrett, Amber (Derek) Scott, and Trevor Shoopman

  • Seven great grandchildren: Chandler, Braden, Pyper, Aiden, Ella, Hayden, and Leelan
  • He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by two brothers, John "Bill" Murley, an infant brother and one sister Ruby Murley. Send condolences to the family of Tommy (Slim) Murley

    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kosair's Children's Hospital, and may be left at the funeral home.

    McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY, in charge of arrangements.
