Appalatin Band will perform at Slider Recital Hall, October 25, 2011

Appalatin Band will perform at Slider Recital Hall, October 25, 2011By Phil Hanna
News from Lindsey Wilson College

The Appalatin Band, offering a fusion of Latin and Appalachian music, will perform at 7pmCT, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Lindsey Wilson College's Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall, 155 Blue Raider Drive, Columbia, KY. A reception will follow. The event is free and open to all.

Appalatin formed in 2006 in Louisville, KY, through band members' mutual love of the folk music sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean. Appalatin's original music is a fusion of Latin and Appalachian folk music from the band member's homelands in Central America, the Andes and Appalachia. Instrumentation features the guitar, charango, mandolin, Andean flutes, bongos, congas, and cajon.

Their songs reflect messages of freedom, community, empowerment, human rights, spirituality, and environmental stewardship.-PHIL HANNA

Hopes a vote in Columbia, KY has no loophole

The Wet/Dry Issue

Ed McQuaide writes to CM contributing commentator Ralph Waggener:
Ralph, from a guy that bought ice cream cones from Jolly Roger in the 60's, I'm still on board with you. It seems the world has really gotten in a big hurry. As we've all gotten older we've watched the generations turn over as it's suppose to do. Jethro Tull said "It was a new day yesterday, but it's an old day now". This is a new world we're all living in, with or without ozero next year.Hopefully a vote would be unlike the tainted vote in Jamestown with the loophole, if enough people start crying. -ED McQUAIDE
