News from the Adair Co. School District

Using a cross-disciplinary approach to studies of Native Americans, teachers at John Adair Intermediate School provide opportunities for students to make connections; expand understanding.

Taking full advantage of the perfect fall weather, 5th grade students at John Adair Intermediate School recently wrapped up their unit of study on Native Americans in an outdoor classroom setting. The students were able to examine early Americans through the lenses of social studies, literature, math, history, and the fine arts.

Social Studies teacher Angie Smith says this is the sixth year that fifth graders have been immersed in the study of native peoples.

Jane Branham, principal explained that students have benefited by experiencing how various subjects usually fit together in real world situations. She added that its hard to say who enjoyed the experience the most, the teachers or the students.

John Adair Intermediate School is consistently recognized for its high levels of performance on state achievement tests. - ALAN W. REED
