Crappie USA coming to Holmes Bend on Green River lake

Crappie USA Inc. will be holding a qualifying event at Holmes Bend on Green River, April 30, 2011 at Columbia, KY. Anglers will be fishing for a 7-fish limit of crappie, which could net them a check along with the opportunity to advance to the Cabelas Crappie USA Classic, which will be held October 12-15, 2011 on the Kentucky/Barkley Lakes at Paris, TN.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Louisville, KY. He was a retired truck driver for Milan Express Trucking and a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Cumberland Masonic Lodge #413 and Burkesville Order of the Eastern Star #380.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 2:04pmCT, at Ballou and Stotts Funeral Home, 304 North Main ST, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Carl Thomas officiating. Burial will in the Rose of Sharon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm-9pmCT on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, in Burkesville.Masonic Services will be held on Friday evening at 6pmCT, at the funeral home. The lodge will open for members at 5pmCT.

Mary Beagle, 87, Freeman AV, Russell Springs, KY, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

The Funeral will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11amCT, at the First Baptist Church, 392 E. Steve Warinner DR, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro Jeff Griffin the officiating clergy. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm-8pm Friday, April 1, 2011, and after 9amCT on Saturday, at the church.

He was a member of a large, respected South Adair Co., KY, family.

William Henry Franklin, 71, of The Flatwoods community of Adair Co., KY,, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 12:35pmCT. at his daughter's residence in Taylor Co., KY, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 12pm noon CT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Gene Conover officiating. Burial in Tarter's Chapel, 3400 Milltown RD, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Friday, April 1, 2011, at the funeral home.

Campbellsville University launches new radio station WLCU

WLCU-FM, 88.7 went live with flip of switch by CU President Michael V. Carter, Dr. Al Hardy, and Beverly Kirk, at CU Media luncheon today, March 31, 2011. Station will serve as lab for students in university's new Introduction to Broadcasting class taught by Dr. H. Keith Spears, Jeannie Clark and Jimmie Wooley. Minors in Broadcasting, Digital Media, Journalism, and Photojournalism and Public Relations will be offered, pending board approval in April, according to Stan McKinney, lead professor for mass communications.

The old school house on Sanders Ridge Road was known as the Shady Grove School in the old days. There was also a church at the same location which I understand has been replaced with a 'modrun' structure nearby. - Frank Dickerson
