The Eagles come off a 72-38 loss to LaRue County, while Adair County comes off an 86-85 loss to Pulaski County. The leading scorers for Campbellsville have been seniors Keaton Hord and Jalen Gribbins, with 16 and 15 points per game respectively. District 8 Crews Prepared for Significant Winter Storm KYTC District 8 includes Adair, Casey, Cumberland, and Russell counties. From Amber Hale Somerset, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 highway crews are prepared to respond to a significant winter storm forecasted to impact the region this weekend, bringing freezing rain, snow and ice. District 8 crews have spent the week preparing for an extended winter weather response by restocking supplies, sharpening chainsaws and ensuring equipment is ready for operation. Anti-icing operations began Thursday and will continue into Saturday morning. This is a statewide winter weather event with major travel impacts expected. Forecasts indicate some areas could receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, along with sleet and ice, through Sunday afternoon. Potential ice accumulations may cause damage to trees and power lines, creating additional challenges for road crews and potentially impacting response efforts. Single-digit temperatures are also expected and could reduce the effectiveness of road salt, which performs best at temperatures above freezing. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during this storm. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2026-01-23 12:27:59 | Comments | Printable version
Letter: Response to the goat question Comments re: Questions for farmers with goats By Katelynn M. Molesky I've already seen some great answers and I definitely agree with the statement that the natural function of a goat's fur does an outstanding job at keeping them warm, as well as the advice about assuring their water source is thawed and drinkable at all times. I'd like to add that providing straw bedding is an excellent way to ensure that your animals stay warm and dry, as it acts as insulation and a way to keep them from having direct contact with the ground. In addition, although it is not always necessary to keep them in a barn, it is ALWAYS wise to provide them with some sort of shelter. It doesn't have to be elaborate, but it should be enough to shield them from direct exposure to weather. In fact, when our goats are given the choice between several different styles, they tend to choose to utilize the "igloos" that we had initially put out for our livestock guardian dogs. When stuffed with some straw, it seems that these little shelters do a good job of keeping them nice and cozy. Interestingly enough, I've found that the larger sizes are capable of holding several regular-sized goats, as these bendable creatures always seem to find a way to all squeeze into one, despite there being enough for all of them to have their own! I guess that also contributes to the amount of heat trapped in there... I'll also emphasize that the rumination (digestion) process creates heat, so I'd say that it would be smart to provide lots of hay for them to pick on throughout the duration of the weather. But overall, a healthy adult goat should be able to handle most Kentucky winters just fine - but I'm sure they'd appreciate any help they can get at staying comfortable through it all. 2026-01-23 12:21:08 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Gov. declares State of Emergency ahead of winter storms From Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On January 23, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency ahead of a severe winter storm system set to affect much of the commonwealth. The storm, expected to begin overnight Friday, may contain heavy snow with significant accumulations, sleet, ice and arctic temperatures, creating dangerous travel and road conditions and the potential for power outages. The state of emergency declaration allows for the activation of state resources, including Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and the Kentucky National Guard (KYNG), to help protect Kentucky communities and families. The state's Emergency Operations Center is preparing to activate to Level 3. "This is a serious storm that will likely cause dangerous conditions on our roads and potential power outages, which is why we are doing everything we can to keep Kentuckians safe," said Gov. Beshear. "We ask that everyone does what they can to prepare now. Run any necessary errands before the storm, avoid traveling while conditions are dangerous, and have weather alerts turned on to stay informed." 2025-26 deer harvest was 5th highest on record From Lisa Jackson Frankfort, KY - Hunters harvested 145,433 deer in Kentucky during the 2025-26 season, the fifth-highest reported total in history and 3,000 above the 10-year average. Adair County's 2025 total was 1923, down very slightly from 2024's record 1929, but still way higher than recent history.
But doe harvest goals, aimed at maintaining a healthy and quality herd, were not met. "In many ways, it was a great deer season - almost 105,000 hunters were successful in taking at least one deer, walking away with meat in the freezer, some with a rack for the wall and all stories to tell friends and family," said Joe McDermott, deer program coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
