Boil Water Advisory Update: Boil Water Advisories lifted From Columbia/Adair Utilities District Date Issued 2/9/2023 Time Issued 4:45 p.m. A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers at 319-1858 Keltner Town Rd., Elroy Coffey Rd, Thomas Coffey Rd., 7784-8420 Edmonton Rd. The advisory has been issued due to a main line break. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. Softball: 2023 LWC season preview On June 29, 2022, Callum Pilgrim was named the eighth head coach in Lindsey Wilson's softball program history by Athletic Director Willis Pooler. 224 days later, the former Blue Raider is set to officially begin her first season at the helm when the locals travel down to Louisiana this weekend for their 2023 opener. "I am honored to be named the Head Coach at Lindsey Wilson College," Pilgrim said. "My time as a Blue Raider had a powerful impact both as a professional and a student-athlete. It is my vision to create a positive culture and environment which will leave a lasting impact on current and future members of the program. LWC holds such a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to be back and get started." This year's roster features a healthy mix of veterans, upperclassmen, and newcomers, including 13 returnees from 2022's line-up. New book of short stories has local ties Author Pauline Kurtz has announced the publication of "Short Stories for Siblings: Sandy and Tim." Two of the stories take place in Adair, Green and Metcalfe counties. "A Good Man" is about Dode Dowell, who was notorious for the murder of Marshall Stotts, and "Lee Haynes" is about another notorious man who rode the ridges with the Rogers Clan back in the 1900s. Kurtz' last book, "Call Me Huck III: The Trials of Fannie Finn Noe," was about Louisa Rogers Stotts when she was growing up on Mell Ridge along with her siblings, Nellie, Fannie, Irene, Henry, Sam, William, and Sally May Rogers. Kurtz lives in North Salem, Indiana, but has ties to several local families. She is the great-niece of Louisa Rogers Stotts and a granddaughter of Fannie Finn Noe. Carol Perkins: The Heart Previous Column: Being Famous By Carol Perkins How did the heart shape become a symbol of Valentine's Day? Although there are many theories, the one that appealed to me is that the heart contains all our passions and emotions. It is, therefore, only fitting that it became the symbol of love. (The brain depends on the heart.) Another theory is that a scientist was trying to draw the human heart and it ended up with two loops and a point. That makes sense, too. For whatever reason, the shape of a heart is a sign of love. For Valentine's day, these hearts come in cards, candy boxes, and diamond necklaces. Many women have a heart-shaped necklace surrounded by diamonds in their jewelry box. We wear sweatshirts with "I 'Heart' Hornets" or New York City. We give mugs with hearts, send balloons with hearts, buy teddy bears with hearts, and wear heart-shaped earrings. Valentine's Day is a vast business. When I was an elementary student, every classroom teacher, along with her students, prepared a Valentine's box covered in crepe papers and hearts. Bowling: LWC gears up for MSC Championships The Lindsey Wilson bowling team prepares to head to Bowling Green for the Mid-South Conference Championships to begin Thursday morning and run through Saturday at Southern Lanes, 2710 Scottsville Rd, Bowling Green, KY. The singles competition gets the event kicked off on Thursday with the men starting at 7:30amCT, followed by the women at 12:15pmCT. The double-elimination team match play tournament takes place on Friday and Saturday. The men start match play on Friday at 7amCT while the women start at 8amCT.
