Barn Lot Theater cancelations By Ann Moss Barn Lot Theater's administrative offices will be closed today and tomorrow, January 20 and 21, 2022, through the weekend, due to hazardous driving conditions. We will return calls when we're back in the office, hopefully on Monday, January 24, 2022. Barn Lot Bingo #0797 is canceled this week, Thursday and Friday, January 20 and 21, 2022, due to inclement weather. Please stay safe and warm out there! We'll See you next week! In addition, the Little Lot Theater January production of Monster in the Closet, which was scheduled for January 28, 29, and 30, 2022, is canceled due to illness. We hope to reschedule the show for later this year and are currently considering dates and cast availability. We will be in contact with current ticket holders for rescheduling or refunding as soon as we are back in the office. Vilsack signs disaster designation for 15 KY counties By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced on Thursday that U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has signed a Secretarial Disaster Designation for the following counties: Adair, Allen, Barren, Butler, Casey, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hart, Larue, Logan, Marion, Simpson, Taylor and Warren. The Secretarial Disaster Designation will expand resources available for agriculture producers in these counties as they rebuild operations. As of Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a new program for farmers to rebuild and repair permanent fencing through the Emergency Conservation Program at the Farm Service Agency. Governor proclaims Joe B. Hall Day By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Gov. Andy Beshear has signed a proclamation declaring today Joe B. Hall Day in the commonwealth, to honor the life and legacy of the beloved University of Kentucky men's basketball coach. Coach Hall, from Cynthiana, passed away January 15, 2022, at age 93. Coach Hall won a national championship in 1948 while playing for UK and won another national championship in 1978 as head coach. In retirement, he continued to mentor UK men's basketball players and alumni and could often be found on the sidelines cheering them on. EWDC releases December 2021 unemployment report By Mike Clark/Gabe Tomlin Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary December 2021 unemployment rate was 3.9%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC). The preliminary December 2021 jobless rate was down 0.2 percentage points from the 4.1% reported in November 2021 and down 1.7 percentage points from the 5.6% recorded for the state one year ago. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for December 2021 was 3.9%, down from the 4.2% reported in November 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. CRD accepting grant applications for ARC mini-grant program By Sharon Dodson The Center for Rural Development is now accepting grant applications for the 2022 Kentucky Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grant program. The mini-grant program (sometimes referred to as FLEX-E-Grants) is open to qualified local units of government and non-profit entities in 35 ARC-designated economically distressed Kentucky counties for capacity building planning and implementation projects. Eligible counties include Adair, Bath, Bell, Breathitt, Carter, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Elliott, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Rockcastle, Rowan, Russell, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe. Grants are competitive and subject to approval for up to $10,000; require a 20 percent match of total project costs; and are to be completed within a six-month timeframe.
