Letter: Silent City Tour 2021

Marcella Hodges writes:
Although I missed seeing this tour in person, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the tour on Columbia Magazine. The actors did a spectacular job. The content was very informative and entertaining, bringing so much of the history of this area alive. Thank you to everyone involved for taking the time to produce such a wonderful reenactment of some of Adair County's history!

Carol Perkins: The Good Dog

Previous Column: The Line

By Carol Perkins

I love dogs, but I also know that a dog is a dog, and I don't trust them. Therefore, when I see newborns and infants lying beside or cuddling with a dog, I flinch. Animals are unpredictable and no matter who says, "My dog won't hurt you," there is always a slight chance a trigger will set it off.

Recently, my brother brought his puppy when he visited my mom for a week and tethered him in the backyard. When I grew close to pet him, he was too animated, so I backed off. However, he reached my wrist, clamped his jaws tight, and left his mark. He was playing and didn't "aim" to hurt me, but he did. That's what bothers me about dogs and children.

Before I got my dog Fluffy, I answered an ad in the paper for a Maltese whose master was going into a nursing home.

Wee Miss Kentucky visits downtown Columbia

Karaline June Weddle, daughter of Kyle and Presley Weddle of Liberty, holds many titles for such a young girl - she has been chosen as Wee Miss United States Beauty Supreme, Wee Miss Kentucky Personality Supreme and Miss Petite Indiana.

She and her family, including grandparents and great grandparents, visited the Public Square in Columbia for Nanwood Market's coffee and Karaline also insisted on a visit to the fountain. She'd have preferred to jump right in but her family reminded her they were on their way to the Pumpkin Patch so she just enjoyed a few power splashes with her little hands.

Karaline's mom and grandmother both went to Lindsey Wilson College so maybe this tiny beauty queen will also be a LWC student in the future.

Kentucky Color: The Chase

By Billy Joe Fudge

Each day is an adventure,
Trophies to be pursued.
Each blink of the eye reveals,
A scene to be perused.

Soft morning sunlight sped past,
Warming Cane Valley knoll,
Coloring the sky ahead,
Marking the spot of gold.

The race was on as I sped
Rapidly through the Burg;
Chasing after the treasure
About which I had heard.

But the bow was far ahead-
And my chase had to end;
The pot was beyond the Green,
Somewhere in Lemon’s Bend!
