Soccer: LWC Women to host Georgetown on Saturday

The No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team return home to battle Georgetown (KY) on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Kickoff is slated for 5pmCT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders (6-2, 5-0 MSC) kept both their win streak and unbeaten conference record intact in their last match as they defeated Thomas More (KY) 4-1 on Wednesday evening.


Claudia Santillan Escobar scored an equalizing goal with five seconds remaining in the first half to even the score 1-1. The Blue Raiders carried the momentum into the second half as Rayssa Neres Gomes De Souza scored her first career goal in the 48th minute to give her team a 2-1 lead. Lindsey Wilson added a pair of goals onto their lead, another from De Souza and one from Yudaya Nakayenze to come away with the 4-1 victory over the Saints.

The late goal by Nakayenze makes her the team leader in goals scored for the season with six. Emma Lindell has successfully set up her teammates this season, recording seven assists. Goalkeeper Maya Caon has been fantastic in the goal this season, recording 36 saves in 683 minutes of play.

Georgetown (4-5-1, 2-2 MSC) is entering the match after losing 2-0 to Shawnee State (Ohio). The Tigers goalkeeper Kacy Zimmerman recorded nine saves in the contest.

Libbey Miller leads the Tigers in scoring this season with five goals under her belt. Four Tigers tie in assists with Braelyn Gantt, Lyzzi Prigmore, Madie Sparks, and Cleo Wells all recording two assists each. Lani Irwin has been the main player in goal this season, recording 77 minutes of action and nine saves.

Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series against Georgetown 38-1-3. The last meeting was on March 7, 2021, where Silvia Marchesi scored her first career goal to push Lindsey Wilson past Georgetown 1-0 in overtime.
