Bill Whicker, age 70, of Dunnville, KY passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021.

He was born on Tuesday, October 10 1950, in Ohio.

He was a retired truck driver, former firefighter, and chairman of the Eli Fire Department board of directors.

Golf: LWC Women to compete in IWU Fall Invitational

The No. 17-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's golf team are set to compete at the IWU Fall Invitational this weekend hosted by the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, IN.

The event is the third of the season for the Blue Raiders. In their last event, the women's team placed 8th out of 15 at the Invite at Innisbrook in Palm Harbour, FL, on September 28th. Malene Clausen jumped six spots up the leaderboard during the final round to finish tied for seventh with a 232 (78-79-75).

The Blue Raiders will get started on Friday morning and will play a second round on Saturday.

Columbia Mayor's Report for September, 2021

Moved millstones at Trabue Russell House (as well as concrete step stones).

Repaired pump at Trabue Russell House.

Lighting completed at the city park on Fairground Street.

Sealed bid auction held during the month.

The 200th anniversary of the Trabue Russell House celebration was held during the month. Our appreciation to Mary Ann Loy for all her dedication and work in making this happen. It was a wonderful event.

Volleyball: LWC set for Battle of Highway 55 on Thursday

The No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team takes on Campbellsville University in Mid-South Conference action tonight, Thursday, October 7, 2021, to cap off a three-game road trip before returning home next week. First serve is set for 6pmCT in Gosser Gymnasium.

Downtown Days start on the Square Friday

Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9, 2021, is the time for Columbia's annual Downtown Days Festival.

Booths open at 4:30pmCT Friday evening. The festival features a food court, arts and crafts vendors, antique tractor show, car show, live entertainment, kids' games and train rides, beauty pageants and a free Darryl Worley concert on Saturday evening.

Columbia Ordinance 830.18 changes garbage rates

City of Columbia Ordinance 830.18 amends Ordinance 830.17, setting fees for the collection of garbage and trash from residences, churches, and commercial establishments with the boundaries of the City of Columbia.

The new ordinance was first read on September 10, 2021, and the second reading was on October 4, 2021.

New rates are effective as of October 7, 2021. Residential rates are now $18.00 per month, Church rates are $18.00 per month, and all Commercial and Industrial rates are based on the rate of $65.00 per ton.

CPD: Plan alternate routes Friday and Saturday

Friday at NoonCT, vehicle access to Public Square will be blocked off in preparation for Downtown Days. The festival will run through Friday evening and Saturday into Saturday night, October 8-9, 2021.

Access from all four streets--Campbellsville, Jamestown, Burksville, and Greensburg--will be halted during the duration for the festival. Motorists will need to plan to take detours and alternate routes during this time.

Soccer: LWC Men stay perfect in conference play

Crestview Hills, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play after defeating Thomas More (KY) 5-0 away from home this evening. Four different Blue Raiders scored tonight with Victor Cavalcante, Julien Gastaldy, Cyrus Harmon, and Nathaniel Onyina Opoku all getting on the score sheet for Lindsey Wilson.

Lindsey Wilson (6-1-1, 5-0 MSC) outshot the Saints (4-4-2, 2-3 MSC) 19-8 with a 10-2 shot on goal mark. Opoku scored his seventh goal in eight games while Gastaldy found the net for the second game in a row. In addition to that, Cavalcante scored his first goal for the Blue Raiders while Harmon notched a brace and an assist in the game.

Please notify anyone you may have been in contact with so they can begin quarantine. Visit www.lcdhd.org for more specific COVID-19 guidance.

Of today's 220 reported cases, 191 (87%) were unvaccinated and 42 of today's cases (19%) were in individuals 18 years of age or younger. Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. Consider getting the vaccine if you are eligible and haven't, and wear a mask when in indoor settings where there are large crowds.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 9.11%.
