Leaving Green, Heading West, Valley Of Fire, NV, Day 1

By Robert Ellis
Robert Ellis Woodworking

It's been a dream for some time now to see the west...specifically Zion National Park in Utah. I have expressed this desire to fellow photographer and Columbia Magazine contributor William Lamkin many times over the last couple years; you'll get to see some of his pics from the trip over the next several days.

Las Vegas is in relatively close proximity to several National parks. So after research was done on how cheap the flights and hotel packages were for a week at Vegas, the dream began to take shape.

Tammy and I met with William and his wife Samantha and agreed to do the trip together...and so it began. It was a dream come true!

The itinerary would be as follows: Day 1, Valley Of Fire, Nevada State Park. Day 2, Grand Canyon, AZ. Day 3, Old Gold Mining/Ghost Town, Nelson, NV, Day 4, Zion National Park, UT, and last Day 5, Red Rock Canyon, NV

Hope you enjoy! --Robert

Phillip Coffey - Sun on the Nose

SUN ON THE NOSE By Phillip Coffey
White caps break the innocence of the placid, vast sea.
Tourist welcoming 'buckling' of his statue along each course
Taken, sand between the toes, not fully understanding
The redness captured from the Sun on the tip of the nose.

Laughs and smiles of many of the cheerful youth playing
On my long-held memories though not very well stated
Not so long before today - the treasures I have not sought
Pleasures not necessarily bought - further thoughts not lending.

Lost pet rabbit in Columbia

From Maggie Coleman

Mark and I spotted a large black rabbit on Short Street this morning when we were out to walk before church. It was obviously somebody’s pet. It was way too tame to survive.
