Jason Curry IDs Retired Workhorses I as IH Farmall H or M

Writer's Uncle, the late Russell Holmes, ran the International Harvester dealership in Columbia, KY, for many years

Jason Curry writes:
This is an International Harvester Farmall H or M. They were produced from 1939 to around 1953. I do believe this is an H as I have one that is still in use, but a close-up would confirm. They built the Super H and Super M a couple more years after the H and M, then I believe they went to the number series. It looks as if this one may have been set up with a front end loader as there are some brackets. Although they are outdated for the most part today, they were the work horses of many Adair County farms. My great-uncle, Russell Holmes, ran the International dealership in Columbia many years ago. --Jason Curry

Kentucky Color - Lucy Clark Demumbrunn Chapter VII

Pierre Boucher's victory with 40 French Canadians changed the course of Canada's History. He was an ancestor of Adair County's Lucy Clark Demumbrunn.

NEXT EARLIER CHAPTER: Kentucky Color - Lucy Clark Demumbrunn Chapter VI

By Billy Joe Fudge

At first, one might think that 600 Iroquois warriors might not be an overwhelming force but Pierre Boucher was in the small fort of Trois-Rivieres with a grand total of less than 50 men.

In reality these 40+ men, although able bodied, were mostly old men and teenagers. This would be the time when Pierre's defensive infrastructure and years of strategic planning would either prove to be a stroke of genius or a glorified vehicle of death and destruction for himself and maybe all the French settlers in the Saint Lawrence River area of the New World.

If anyone was wondering who picked up trash in ditches around the radio station WAIN yesterday, on Hwy 206 and proceeded on up the road some, it was our magistrate. Terry Hadley can be thanked. Thanks, Anonymous - We appreciate your catching this Random Act of Stewardship. Pretty soon, tourist season - more important than ever to the Adair County economy, will be in full swing. Hope others will emulate Magistrate Hadley (District 7), and follow your suggestion, which would take care of the problem in the first place. - EW
