Official Crowd Estimate, Christmas in Columbia: Over 3,000 total The official Columbia Police Department estimate for Saturday's Christmas in Columbia activities is over 3,000; estimate for the Parade alone: 2,200-2,500 By Ofc. Josh Brockman, Public Affair Officer City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Jason Cross, Chief Our department estimated the crowd in attendance for the parade at between 2200 and 2500. This estimate would be conservative, due to the extreme cold front that moved through most enjoyed the parade from the warmth of their vehicle making it harder to estimate how many people were in each vehicle so we went the average family size of 3 per vehicle but many vehicles were jammed to capacity. There are roughly 500 parking spots available with road frontage on Jamestown street and Burkesville street and not a one was open. We feel over 3000 people enjoyed the activities throughout the entire days festivities. - Ofc. Josh Brockman 2013-12-08 13:00:42 | Comments | Printable version

Happy Tail: Christmas Fund Raising Peg Schaeffer introduces a simple way to have a pet vicariously - for those who love animals but for personal reasons can't have one full time at home. She's launching "Sponsor a Dog," project at Sugarfood Farm Rescue. She writes: 'We have lots of adoptable dogs waiting for Furever Homes as well as several dogs that are just not adoptable. We have fear biters, dogs with health problems, dogs that refuse to be housebroken, or dogs that are aggressive. We also have dogs that have been with us for so long it wouldn't be fair to adopt them out now. We won't euthanize a dog, unless for severe health issues, so the problem children will stay with us for life.' Carol Perkins: O Christmas tree, you'll be the death of me In the old days, getting a real Christmas tree, a real Eastern Red Cedar one, but a lot of of work. A lot of work. But not as much as the PRELIT one our heroine bought this year. A food for thought column, written, as always, in the inimicable style with unique Metcalfe County humor only found in the column "Carol Perkins." - CM The next earlier column: Carol Perkins: Have we leaped over Thanksgiving . Posted November 24, 2013 By Carol Perkins "O' Christmas tree, you'll be the death of me." A person might think that putting up a PRELIT artificial tree would be a reasonably easy task. After all, compared to the olden days of trekking through the woods with a handsaw and a trusty dog close behind to scare off savage beasts, eyeing a tree from all directions to make sure there are no holes in the branches, cutting it down so as not to injure the limbs, and then lugging it to the truck or the trunk of a car, that moving a tree from the attic or basement would be simple. Well, it should be but... Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2013-12-08 04:40:31 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Carol Perkins
