She was a member of a large, respected Adair County family. She leaves 42 direct living descendants. She was a member of the Church of God

Lenora Corbin, 83, formerly of Columbia, KY, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 6:45amCT, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

The funeral service will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ronnie Janes officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. Visitation wil be after 5pmCT, Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the funeral home.

Phyllis Ann Newby, Russell Springs, KY (1952-2011)

She was a native of Adair Co., KY, a member of a highly regarded family, a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and was a nurse at Westlake Regional Hospital, Russell Co. Hospital, and completed her career at Family Home Health in Adair Co., KY

Phyllis Ann Newby, 58, of Russell Springs, KY, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 5:05amET, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY, after an extended illness.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Seibert F. Taylor delivering the eulogy. Visitation after 6pm, Friday, April 15, 2011, at the funeral home.

Alta Barbee Garnett, Columbia, KY, (1908-2011)

She was a member of one of Columbia's most distinguished families and one of Columbia's most beloved citizens. She had seen and perfectly remembered more history of the Community than possibly any other Adair Countian, and shared her knowlege freely. Her close friendships transcended a century of generations. She was the oldest member of the Columbia Baptist Church and the oldest alumnus of Lindsey Wilson College. She had been a legal secretary and court reporter during her active working career.

Alta Garnett, age 102 of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at 2:15amCT, at Summit Manor Center in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 11amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Dr. G. Ted Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. The family request visitation after 4pmCT, on Monday, April 18, 2011, at the funeral home.

Spring PRIDE Cleanup postponed to May 7, 2011

112 new jobs at BRUSS plant, Russell Springs, KY

Lisa Lee in the office of Adair County Judge Ann Melton has received a notice that BRUSS is looking to hire 112 people in the next 3-4 weeks. According to information they have recieved, applicants must complete a Ready for Work Program through the Adult Learning Center, 403 Indian DR, Columbia, KY.

Ready for Work is a 40 hour program, which starts each Monday and runs from 8am-4pmCT Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8am-12pmCT with a guaranteed interview on Friday afternoon. Applicants must have GED to be eligible for hire. The phone number at the Adult Learning Center is (270) 384-4497. Applicants are to go to the office of Employment and Training at 969 Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY to begin the application process.

Treasury has $1,407,783.66 reconciled balance

Adair County Treasurer Barry Corbin reported reconciled balances in all county accounts of $1,407,783.66 as of March 31, 2011. The court approved the report 7-0 on a motion by Perry Reeder (4), seconded by Billy Dean Coffey. The court also unanimously approved budget transfers requested by the treasurer, also on a 7-0 vote.

Jera Kessler wins KY Jersey Grand Champion with TC Jacinto Bessie

The 2011 Kentucky National Dairy Shows and Sales and the seventh annual Kentucky Kow-A-Rama was held at the KY Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, KY, on April 8-9, 2011. Dairy Cattle were exhibited from throughout Kentucky and several other states.

Jera Kessler of Columbia KY received Jersey Grand Champion of the Youth Show and Jersey Grand Champion of the Open show with her 3 year old cow, TC Jacinto Bessie.
