Beta scholarship and award won in Metcalfe By Torrie Osbon, Communications Director Metcalfe County High School is proud to announce senior Colton Huffman is one of the top five National Beta Scholarship winners. This year, more than 2,700 students, both nationally and internationally, applied for a National Beta scholarship. Five students received the top awards, and Huffman was awarded $6,000. Selection of National Beta Scholarship winners is based on several factors with special emphasis on academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, commendable character, school and community service, as well as National Beta involvement. "National Beta members are among the top students in their respective schools. We're thrilled that our program defrays some of the expense of these students' first year in college and helps bring them closer to the attainment of their goals," said National Beta CEO Bobby Hart. National Beta awards more than $300,000 in scholarships to outstanding members in the 12th grade each year. MCES Beta Wins National Service Award The National Beta Club at Metcalfe County Elementary School has proudly been named a 2024 National Beta Grand Slam Service award winner. The club earned this award by spending an average of 100+ hours per member serving their school, community, and state this year. Only 60 clubs earned the National Beta Grand Slam Service award. MCES Beta Sponsor Lindsey Thomas said, "I'm so proud of the initiative our Betas have taken in serving others and fully embracing the service pillar of Beta. Our students logged a combined 5,649 hours to benefit our school, district, and the community." This story was posted on 2024-05-09 10:35:34
