Smith and Watts accepted to Governor's Scholars Program Adair County High School juniors Aaron Smith and Bailey Watts have been accepted to the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program for summer 2024. GSP is a five-week summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky between their Junior and Senior years. In order to participate in the program, students must be nominated by their high schools and then compete on a state-wide level. The application process is similar to that of prestigious colleges and universities. The students must write lengthy applications that consist of all their academic, athletic, and community projects they have participated in since becoming a high school student. Mrs. Candice Flatt, the Gifted Coordinator for the Adair County School district, teaches these students during Tribe Time at the highschool, and both are in her Kentucky United Nations Assembly class. Mrs. Flatt says, "Bailey Watts and Aaron Smith are two amazing, intelligent, and hard-working students who compete at the state level in the Kentucky United Nations Assembly competition in Louisville, KY, each year. Aaron is on the debate team and has been extremely successful writing resolutions for our team. Bailey Watts was elected as the International Court of Justice President for the 2024-2025 school year. Both students excel in world politics and social economics. I am so pleased to have them in my program, and they are very deserving of the Governor's Scholars award. I know there are better things yet to come for these outstanding students." Letter: Missing Yield Sign Kerry R. writes: I was going around the Square yesterday (coming from Greensburg Street) and someone in a small gray car on Jamestown Street failed to yield to me. I then followed the person to Campbellsville Street. The car had an Adair County tag, so no way to plead ignorance about the need to yield to oncoming traffic when entering the Square. He just chose not to.Comments re: Yield sign missing - traffic confused Click here to share, print, or bookmark this article. 2024-04-25 17:47:16 | Comments | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
ACHS plans Operation 10-46 on the cusp of Prom 2024 On the morning of Thursday, May 2, 2024, Adair County High School, in conjunction with several community first responders, will stage an activity for Adair Couty High School students that will involve a staged car accident. The activity, entitled Operation 10-46--which is emergency personal radio communication code for an automobile accident with injuries--will take place at the Adair County Middle School Football field. The purpose of this activity is to reinforce the importance of smart decisions in and around prom weekend. Distracted and impaired driving is a concern across age levels, and organizers feel that this activity will drive home the importance of making good decisions, staying away from drinking or impaired driving, and never texting while behind the wheel. Each of these poor decisions can have dire consequences and Operation 10-46 will communicate this in a very real manner. Please be prepared to hear sirens in and around Adair County Schools campus on the morning of May 2, 2024. There will be a variety of emergency personnel involved in and around the automobile accident scene. Medical evacuation helicopters will also be landing on campus as well.
