CPD: Stolen Firearm

On Thursday night, October 12, 2023, officers initiated a traffic stop on Tutt Street in Columbia. When an Officer approached the driver, subject had a marijuana joint behind his ear as well as an alcoholic open container.

The male subject was detained, and the vehicle was searched. More marijuana was located as well as a .380 caliber handgun which was found to be stolen.


De Leon Benedicto, 24, of Russell Springs, has been charged with speeding, operating a vehicle without a license, possession of marijuana, and receiving stolen property (firearm).

Officers Elliot Smith and Trent Williams were the arresting Officers. They were assisted on scene by Officer Trevor Foster as well as Adair Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police.
