Four honored at LWC's 92nd Homecoming Celebration By Venus M. Popplewell "I'm not calling you out, I'm calling you up." That was the message former Adair County EMT, Dr. Hannah Hayduk '15 Morales delivered during her acceptance speech Saturday at the College's 92nd-annual National Alumni Association Homecoming Awards Celebration and Luncheon. "I'd like to remind the young people here that you do not need to wait for recognition to act as a leader," said Morales, a resident physician at the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education's Laredo Family Medicine Program in Laredo, Texas. "You shouldn't need a title to instill and utilize the qualities to build rapport and gain respect. A big part of that is also self-accountability. But if someone is holding you accountable it is because they know you are capable of more." Morales, from Laredo, Texas, received the Outstanding Young Alumna award from the LWC National Alumni Association at the homecoming awards banquet on Saturday morning. Also receiving alumni awards were: Bill Straus '69 from Lexington, Kentucky, who received the Distinguished Alumnus award; Charity Ferguson '01 from Greensburg, Kentucky, who received the Distinguished Service award; and Dr. Jerry Westerfield from Russell Springs, Kentucky, who received the Honorary Alumnus award. Other homecoming activities included the Homecoming Kickoff: Fireworks and Pep Rally; the 7th Annual Faculty and Staff Reunion and Picnic; the 19th Annual Annual Morris Shepherd Pingpong Tournament; the 2nd Annual Brady C. Button Memorial Golf Scramble; the Alumni Tailgate Zone sponsored by 93.5 WAIN; and the naming ceremony for the Dr. Scott Dillery Fall Frenzy Swimming Invitational. Brady C. Button Memorial Golf Scramble More than 50 family and friends participated in the 2nd Annual Brady C. Button Memorial Golf Scramble. Button was a 1998 LWC graduate and staff member who passed away from a battle with skin cancer in June of 2021. All proceeds from the golf scramble will benefit The Brady C. Button Endowed Scholarship and the LWC men's basketball program. Chafin Gives Message for Church College Day Associate Professor of Music & Director of Choral Programs Gerald Chafin delivered the message on Wednesday during the annual Church College Celebration Day held in V.P. Henry Auditorium. LWC celebrates its connection to The United Methodist Church each year. Dr. Chafin also serves LWC as the Assistant to the President for Church Relations. LWC Board Chair Dr. Allan Parnell Is Honored at Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony Adair County native and Louisville businessman Dr. Allan Parnell was honored on Saturday when the College unveiled a bronze statue honoring Parnell's tenure as the longest-serving chairman of the LWC Board of Trustees. The sculpture, cast in molten bronze, stands at the entrance of Parnell Family Stadium in Lindsey Wilson Sports Park and is more than seven feet tall. Diamond Bryant is Homecoming Queen and Isaac Duop is Homecoming King On Saturday afternoon, the LWC student body crowned the homecoming queen and king during halftime of the LWC football game at Parnell Family Stadium. Diamond Bryant from Clarksville, Tennessee, was crowned queen, and Isaac Duop from South Sudan, was crowned king.
