Earth Day has been proclaimed in Columbia for Saturday April 22. Earth Day is an annual event to recognize our environment. The Lindsey Wilson College Sustainability and Environmental Studies Program joined Mayor Pamela Hoots at City Hall on Wedneday, April 19, 2023, for the proclamation signing.

The proclamation reads:

Earth Day
Columbia and Adair County
April 22, 2023

  • Whereas, each year is celebrated as an annual event for our environment;

  • Whereas, it is estimated that over eight million tons of plastic are entered in planet's waters annually;

  • Whereas, we would like to encourage people to walk, cycle, run, instead of driving;

  • Whereas, we encourage recycling and planting trees in our community;

  • Whereas, we want to recognize the Lindsey Wilson College Sustainability Environmental Studies Program;

  • Whereas, the Lindsey Wilson College program was founded on the princil of environmental ethics and the science of sustainability;

  • Therefore, we recognize April 22, 2023, as Earth Day in Columbia.
