County unemployment data for December 2025 From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates fell in all 120 counties between December 2024 and December 2025, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.7%. It was followed by Shelby County, 2.8%; Caldwell, Fayette, Oldham and Todd counties, 2.9% each; and Bourbon, Carroll, Franklin, Graves, Scott and Washington counties, 3% each. Russell County Search & Rescue report Feb 3, 2026 Around 4 a.m., Russell County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the Pulaski County line for a missing 15-year-old who had left his home around 2 a.m. and slid down a steep hillside, becoming lost and unable to climb out. After the juvenile was located by drone, rescuers made their way to him and confirmed he was safe but stranded between 2 cliff faces. A rope system was set up, and one of our rescuers rappelled down to reach him. With no safe way out except straight back up, the juvenile was secured into a harness and hoisted up the cliff before being walked to an ambulance. Sue Ann Strakal, 82, Taylor County, KY Sue Ann Strakal of Campbellsville was born in Jamestown, Kentucky on September 3, 1944 to the late Paul I. and Ethel L. (Cundiff) Hammond. She departed this life on Monday, February 2, 2026 being 81 years of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Strakal was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom and worked there over 26 years before her retirement. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Colby Ray Brockman, 89, Georgetown, KY (1936-2026) Colby Ray Brockman of Georgetown, KY, passed away on January 25, 2026. He was 89 years old. Cremation was chosen, and no public services are planned. Colby was born on February 17, 1936. He was a longtime Kentucky resident, living his early years in Columbia and Campbellsville, later in Lexington, and spending the last few years of his life in Georgetown. He often talked about his early years in Columbia, fondly recalling friends and familiar faces from that chapter of his life. Green dot to appear at LWU Feb 19 basketball games By Duane Bonifer Area residents can attend one of the biggest rivalries in Kentucky college athletics while also supporting a good cause on February 19, 2026. That's when the Lindsey Wilson University women's and men's basketball teams play Georgetown College at Biggers Sports Center while also bringing attention to the Green Dot Program -- an effort to raise awareness of and prevent sexual assault. The women's game begins at 5:30pmCT on Thursday, February 19, 2026, followed by the men's game, which is scheduled to start at 7:30pmCT. "Kentuckians love basketball, so we thought that a doubleheader between two big in-state rivals would be an excellent way to educate more people about the Green Dot program," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Student Activities Stephanie Blackwood, who is organizing and coordinating the event.
