From Broadway bruises to fight in Fayetteville

By Ryan Hoots
Sports Director, UntdWeStnd.com

Fayetteville, AR - Kentucky left Nashville humiliated on Tuesday night. Not frustrated, not annoyed, but completely and utterly humiliated.

Vanderbilt didn't just beat Kentucky; they exposed them. They took away their rhythm and their confidence. The loss shifted the discussion completely, even for the most hopeful Kentucky fan.

Losses like that often linger. They can turn one bad night into a bad week and sometimes even derail an entire season.

Kentucky's 85-77 victory in Fayetteville on Saturday was important because they prevented that from happening. Even the most composed teams are devoured by Bud Walton Arena. Visiting teams may quickly find themselves in an avalanche of negativity as the noise level rises and the pressure increases.

Letter: Offering up a name for the cat

Fred Thomas writes:
I'd call him/her Bandit. A cat that helps itself to food when the coast is clear is a Bandit. Even looks like its watching and waiting for the coast to be clear.

Snow-Go once again...

Mike shares a SNOW and weather piece from 2021 that might just fit once more...

By Mike Watson

The weather outside is frightful one more time, and there may well be more in the offing. We in Kentucky have had plenty of snow and ice for one winter. Not a record, but cabin fever and the like seem to have overtaken so many residents that open rebellion is in the mind of many. Last evening, Sunday, in the space of twenty minutes roads and walks went from clear, or relatively clear, to white. By morning two and one-half inches covered our surfaces.

I had fought the notion of a short historical sketch on past snowfalls, but here are a few weather notes assembled from near-forty years of research into Adair County's past:

The first week of January 1886 brought a very cold snap, with temperatures in the region dropping well below zero. Stanford, in Lincoln County, officially recorded a week-long low of 24 below zero. Rockcastle County registered 28 below. Adair County was likely in the same temperature range.

Letter: Stories/Pictures from Donna Rieder

Vicki Brock writes:
I'd like to say how much I enjoy Donna Rieder's stories and pictures. I especially liked her recent one about living up north. She's an excellent storyteller and photographer. I'd love to visit her beautiful farm sometime as I love all types of animals. Thank you, Donna for taking time to bring your farm to life on CM!

"We've got a lot of students here to recognize, a lot of accomplishments," Faulkner said, adding that the district was excited to celebrate recent successes across academics, athletics, and the arts.
