Carol Perkins: The Ski Trip (Part 2 of 5) Previous Column: The Ski Trip (Part 1 of 5) By Carol Perkins Guy, Judy, and I stepped apprehensively out the back door of the resort and into the brisk night air, wearing our ski boots and carrying our skis. One of the group members who knew how to ski volunteered to give us a few necessary instructions. "One thing to remember is that when you fall, you can't get back up unless you pop your skis from the ski boot. Then, when you're up, you can put the boot back into the ski. However, don't let that ski get away from you or it will get to the bottom without you." She effortlessly demonstrated how to pop the skis. We pretended to understand. Basketball: Lady Indians at Green Co. preview By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Lady Indians are back on the court on Saturday, January 3, 2026, to face the Green County Dragons (7-5) at Green County. The Lady Indians come off their home loss to Taylor County, and the Dragons come off a 55-39 neutral site loss to Hopkins County Central. Adair County and Green County share two mutual opponents. Both teams have defeated Marion County; Green County at home by 19, and the Lady Indians on the road by 17. Both teams have fallen to Campbellsville; Green County by six at home and Adair County by 14 on the road. The names to watch on the Green County roster are a trio of sophomores, Scout Brockman, Molly Dixon, and Chloe Fortner. Each of them average in double figures, led by Brockman who averages almost 17 points per game. Brockman is also the team's leading rebounder, averaging almost nine rebounds a game and nearly averaging a double/double. It is no secret that the Lady Indians did not have the outing that they were hoping for against the Taylor County Lady Cardinals, but bagging a win against a talented Green County team could easily put that in the rear view and keep this team moving in the right direction. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pmCT on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 302 Green County High School, Brummal Ave, Greensburg, KY. 2026-01-03 15:08:58 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports
Basketball: Indians vs Trojans preview By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Saturday, January 3, 2025, the Adair County Indians return to action as they host the Barren County Trojans (9-2). The Indians are fresh off a thrilling 82-80 win over Taylor County, while the Trojans come off a 72-49 home win over Warren East. The leading scorers for Barren County so far this season are senior Kade Hardy and sophomore Weston Shelton. Both are averaging in double figures with 12.9 points per game and 11 points per game respectively. The name of the game for Barren County thus far has been hindering their opponents' scoring. They have given up a total of just 561 points through 11 games this season, while Adair County has given up some 768 points over 11 games. In fact, Barren County's smothering defense has given up over 60 points only once this year, against Green County in their season opener. Meanwhile, Adair County's explosive offense has produced less than 60 just once this season, in a loss to Campbellsville without two of their top three scorers. So, in this game something will have to give. Barren County's tough defense, or Adair County's high powered offense, will likely determine who walks away the winner of this one. Come out and support your Indians in another home contest. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30pmCT on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tickets are available at hometownticketing.com. 2026-01-03 14:57:28 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports

Basketball: Indians win thriller over Taylor By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Friday, January 2, 2025. the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated arch rival Taylor County 82-80 in a home game thriller. The Indians went ahead early 2-0 on an explosive dunk from Landon Blakey, before falling behind by double digits. Both teams posted runs leading to the Cardinals having the upper hand 44-36 at the half. That lead would shrink slightly and steadily, until Adair County recaptured the lead 50-49 for the first time since it was 2-0, with 3:03 left in the third quarter. Taylor County would push back and build up a six point lead by the quarters end. The teams battled throughout the fourth, leading to a tied ball game with 27.9 seconds to go. Ultimately, verything was decided at the free throw line, with Adair County senior Landon Blakey knocking down two free throws for the Tribe to go ahead 80-78, followed by Taylor County senior Bryten Close hitting two of his own to retie the game at 80-all. Adair County had the final possession of the game, and a chance for the win. Tylin George was clearly fouled, and knocked down clutch free throws to secure an Adair County win 82-80. George was the leading scorer on the night, with 31, followed by Dawson Gilbert with 23, and Landon Blakey with 19. Blakey posted yet another double-double as he added a team-leading 11 rebounds to go along with his 19 points. All in all, the Indians notch a massive district win against their bitter rival, and will look to ride their three-game winning streak right into a good performance against the Barren County Trojans (8-2) in another home matchup which will get underway at 7:30pmCT on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Basketball: Lady Indians fall to Taylor, face Green Co. By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Friday, January 2, 2026, the Adair County Lady Indians fell to the Taylor County Lady Cardinals 75-43 at home. The Tribe came out hot early, going ahead 18-15 by the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Lady Cardinals would dominate for pretty much the remainder of the game, mostly on the back of their leading scorer, Kennedy Deener, who torched Adair County with some 29 points, 21 of which came from the charity stripe as the Lady Cardinals freshman went 21 for 22 from the free throw line for the night. The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Kinzlee Akin and Ella Brown, with nine points each. The Lady Indians were simply outmatched and struggled for most of the night to get past Taylor County's defense. The Tribe will look to improve as they go on the road to face the Green County Dragons (7-5) at 6:30pmCT on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 302 Green County High School, Brummal Ave, Greensburg, KY. 2026-01-03 12:49:47 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports
