Sophomore class organizes ACHS winter formal

The Sophomore class of ACHS held a formal dance Saturday night and it was quite a success in many ways. First, it had 315 people who bought tickets, and second, the tickets were only ten bucks each!

My granddaughter Jade is the president of the class and she and all the elected officers planed this on their own!

Ribbon cutting and open house Feb 17 for new PT office

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for new member KORT Physical Therapy Columbia at 11amCT on Friday, February 17, 2023. There will be an Open House following the ceremony.

KORT Physical Therapy Columbia is located at 930 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY.

Health and safety are top of mind at 2023 Farm Machinery Show

Each year, attendees at the National Farm Machinery Show have a chance to see the newest selection of cutting-edge agricultural products, equipment, and services. This year, they also have the chance to get the latest advancements for their physical and mental health.

In addition to farm safety exhibits, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and partners are offering a number of health services to help farmers and agricultural producers remain at their physical best, Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles announced.

The show is set for February 15-18 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Janie Hines Francis, 75, Edmonton, KY native (1947-2023)

Janie Hines Francis of Louisville passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville. She was 75 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East St, Edmonton, KY, with burial to follow in the Lone Star Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday, and will continue after 9amCT on Friday until time of service.

William Leon Jewell, 79, Greensburg, KY (1943-2023)

William Leon Jewell of Greensburg departed this life Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was 79 years old.

Graveside services for William Leon Jewell will be held at 10amCT on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Aetna Grove Church Cemetery in the Hudgins community of Green County, Kentucky, with Rev. Leslie Jewell officiating.

Baseball: LWC hosts Olivet Nazarene to open 2023 homestand

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team welcomes (RV) Olivet Nazarene to Egnew Park this week to open the 2023 homestand. These two squads will face off four times with doubleheaders starting at 2pmCT on Thursday and Friday.

The Blue Raiders are 2-1 after competing in the Clash of Conferences hosted by Milligan University (TN) to start the 2023 campaign.

Frankfort, KY - Football fans across the country are gearing up for America's most-watched sporting event, Super Bowl LVII, on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Fans are reminded not to let the dangers of drunken driving ruin their celebrations.

"Don't let your celebrations end tragically," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "Enjoy the big game, but please be responsible. Keep yourself and others safe by planning a sober ride home if you plan to drink alcohol and never get behind the wheel drunk."

ACSO: Injury collision on Highway 55 South

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle injury accident, four miles South on Kentucky Highway 55 South.

Preliminary investigation determined that Cheri Shepherd, 58, of Jamestown, was traveling South in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. Arlis Kearns, 81, of Columbia, was traveling East on Old Glens Fork Road. Kearns stopped at the intersection of Kentucky Highway 55 South and Old Glens Fork Road. Kearns then attempted a left hand turn onto Highway 55 South and traveled into the path of Shepherd.

The collision caused Shepherds vehicle to flip numerous times before coming to rest upright.

ACSO: Adair women arrested on methamphetamine charges

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at around 9pmCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office received a call of a suspicious female walking around the Allan School House Road area.

K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten and Deputy Chris Tweedy responded to the area and located a woman walking. Upon investigation, she was found to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance and in possession of methamphetamine.

Strong winds expected Wed/Thu

Mike Keltner, Director of Adair Co. Emergency Management, sends word of the potential for windy weather late tonight and early Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Louisville predicts that a strong low pressure system will bring widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms to the region, and non-thunderstorm wind gusts of 40-50+ mph will be possible, especially late tonight and early Thursday.

Possible impacts are:
  • Localized damaging winds
  • Scattered power outages
  • Disruptions to Thursday morning commute

Bomb threat investigated in Jamestown

An incident in Jamestown, KY on Tuesday morning caused officials to close City Hall.

According to Jamestown Police Chief Jeff Kerns, a resident was cleaning when she came upon a live rifle round, possibly belonging to a fifty caliber rifle, and brought the round to the police department to be disposed of.
