Shera Sanders, 64, Casey Creek, KY (1958-2022)

Shera Jean Sanders of Casey Creek died on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Taylor Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Campbellsville. She was 64 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Knifley Christian Church, 7910 Elkhorn Rd, Knifley KY, with Bro. Hugh Withers officiating. Burial will follow in Roley Cemetery.

Visitation is requested on Friday after 4pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, and will continue after 10amCT on Saturday at Knifley Christian Church.

Christian artist Scotty Inman performs at CU

Campbellsville, KY - Gospel artist Scotty Inman recently performed hits off his new album "Anywhere Jesus Is" in Ransdell Chapel at Campbellsville University.

Former CU campus minister Dan Flanagan introduced Inman as being a long-time friend and said Inman has "seven number-one songs that have been published."

I've stopped. I've given up watching the radar or listening to the local weather. Snow on Christmas will not happen. I've concluded that living in a winter wonderland is not in my cards. Oh, maybe a flake or two, but nothing sled worthy.

Kentucky grandchildren will never know the art of dodging trees as they appear out of nowhere as their sleds glide down a rough hillside. They won't recognize sledding that doesn't end with a mixture of mud. They, however, won't know the difference and will be forced to listen to our "back when I was a kid" stories.

Sledding was a mandate of a good snowfall when I was a kid. (Here I go.) Henry (my brother) and I had one sled between us.

KSP: Wreath program honors fallen officers

Frankfort, KY - During the season of giving, two women across state lines are working together to ensure those who gave it all are never forgotten. A sister from Pennsylvania and a mother from Kentucky both lost a law enforcement family member in the line of duty. They connected four years ago and continue the honorable tradition of providing Christmas wreaths for the Kentucky State Police (KSP) fallen unit's gravesites. KSP has 37 fallen officers who have died in the line of duty since 1948.

"During the holiday season, the National Christmas Wreath Program allows us to take a moment to honor those who gave everything to protect the commonweath," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "My family and I will never forget the officers who dedicated their lives to service."

Op-Ed: We must invest in civics

For many Americans, the first image that comes to mind when they hear the term "civics" is not the White House or a voting booth, but rather an animated piece of paper singing on the steps of the Capitol Building. This initial introduction to civic learning - how we engage with each other, our communities, and our democratic system - is often the most direct exposure to civics instruction that many students receive. With growing polarity within our governmental institutions, our willingness and capacity to participate in our civic duties are more important than ever before, further emphasizing the need for robust civics education in schools.

Beyond increased involvement in our political systems, exposing young people to civic learning opportunities provides a myriad of benefits, including improved civic equality, the development of 21st-century skills, improved school climate, and even lower drop-out rates.

The Adair Co. Fair Annual Christmas Drive

The Adair Co. Fair is collecting money to provide toys and food cards to less fortunate families in Adair County at Christmas time.

Toy donations may be dropped off at Cash Express, 849 Jamestown St, Columbia, KY, and monetary donations are being sought for the grocery gift cards that each family receives. Contact Amanda Page at 270-250-1327 or Charles Grimsley at 270-634-2253 before December 10 to donate money to the cause. Checks can also be mailed to: Adair Co. Fair, P.O. Box 401, Columbia, KY 42728

If you know a family in need, please call Jamie Hadley at 270-250-3075. Leave a message with number of people in the household, a contact number, address and ages & sex of each child in the household. The last day to be added to the list is December 10, 2022.

Farm Bureau South phones down temporarily

Update: The phones are back up and running now.

Jason and Karen shared from the Farm Bureau South office in Columbia that their Burkesville Street office IS open today, Thursday, December 8th, but phones are temporarily out due to work going on with the system.

There are currently approximately 70 residents/grandparents at Summit Manor Nursing Home in need. The Columbia Rotary Club needs your help to make a difference in their lives this holiday season.

Curvan Truitt "Smitty/Buster" Smith of Amelia, OH, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022, at his residence. He was 92 years old.

A Visitation will be held from 4pmET to 8pmET on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Dobbling Funeral Home, 106 S. Ft. Thomas Ave., Ft. Thomas, KY.

A second visitation, followed by the funeral ceremony, will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Square Oak Separate Baptist Church in Ono, KY.

The visitation will be held 10amCT to NoonCT on Saturday, December 10, 2022, followed by the funeral ceremony where Smitty will be laid to rest next to his loving wife at Square Oak Separate Baptist Church Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the Russell County Honor Guard.

The Adair County Caregiver Support Group will meet at 11amCT on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. This is an invitation for anyone that is caregiving to come, have a complimentary light lunch and receive helpful information.

Caregivers need time away just as any worker needs a vacation from the daily stress of his or her job, according to the National Caregivers Association. The speaker this month will be Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots.

Gerald Bault of Russell Springs passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. He was 81 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1pmCT on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Bill Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors by the Russell County Honor Guard.
